Ambrose Island
Vbinnia Radek ![]() Find one and click Hopefully this page will give a small insight into Ambrose Island and help you decide if you would like to live here. Also some links to helpful tips for existing residents at the end. If you have arrived at this web page by some obscure route, you can find the island in-world by opening the 'main map', typing the name in the search, and using the teleport button to get here. If you know nothing about Second Life and are mystified by all this, try this link Second Life Community We like visitors on Ambrose, so there is an open invitation to come and look around without obligation. My own parcels the, mountain and steam punky bit with the airships are always open to any visitors; try any doors I rarely lock anything. Please be respectful to people that live here, interference and griefing will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The surprising success of Ambrose since we started in April 2009 means that occasionally there will be no vacancies, but please come and look around anyway. You can always leave your name and I will contact you as soon as there are any vacant parcels. There have been several instances of really unpleasant confrontations with people that say , "Yes." when asked if they have read the covenant, then blithly go about totally ignoring it. we do want poeple to live here, but not that badly! I am the owner of Ambrose, althought juding by some reactions, some seem to think that gives me no rights to ask anyone to comply with the covenant. I would sooner you go elsewhere than cause me or yourself grief. You can find a copy of the Covenant at the Bottom of this page, I cannot stress this enough PLEASE READ IT! Bouncing security orbs and parcel ban lines are ABSOLUTELY Forbidden! If you are that paranoid or antisocial, read no further. I'm sorry, but this is not the place for you. We do not have hangups about what your AV looks like, or sexual preferences here; we have more than one mistress with attendant subs on the Island, and if I choose to decadently walk about naked for some reason, I damn well will! I have had quite a lot insults and bad behavior aimed at me in my time in SL , so if any tenants here get any grief from another, or anyone else, the perpetrator will be very GONE! and barred from the island very quickly. You might also be interested in the way individual residents like to think of their place here on Ambrose, fictional or otherwise. There are pages here for their use to express themselves in any way they choose.
Take a look here.We have had content builders, scripters, and just plain nice people of all sorts living here over the time we have existed, but please don't be put off if you are new to renting land, A few minutes conversation with us could save you from making ill-informed decisions and a lot of wasted time and money in the long run, we want you to enjoy Second Life, not get disillusioned. ![]() South Shore If you decide to join us, you do not have to take up residence at the beginning of the month. I will discount for the weeks you have not occupied the parcel in that month. All rents are due on the First Day of each calendar month. I can also divide or enlarge parcels, within reason, to fit a budget, and even provide a basic house if push comes to shove. The rest of this introduction to Ambrose is interspersed with a small selection of views of Ambrose taken at various times, that do more justice than classified advertisements can and give an overall feel of the Island. As with all things SL, things can change quickly and may not be as depicted by the time my fingers leave the key board. ![]() Vbinnia's Office, with Sprocket the steam punk noisy parrot Purchasing Ambrose and keeping it in existence was a leap of faith by my self, Vbinnia Radek, and it cannot be stressed enough that without the help and support of Melody Siamendes, my long time and closest friend in SL, who is also a tenant here, I may not have got this far. Ambrose is probably not the cheapest place to live (it isn't for me and I own it!), and has a few strict rules which I insist on because I live on Ambrose myself. You wouldn't expect to live in a national park known for its wonderful views in RL and not expect, some!, rules. In the past I have experienced the chaos and ugliness, endless LAG, and sheer uncaring, unthinking nature of people towards others of the Mainland. Within these rules I can be very tolerant and helpful, as many here will testify. ![]() Czarina Vella's lovely home nestling at the base of Ambrose's Mountain So PLEASE! take the time to read the Covenant. I know it's long and boring, but you will not have any problems if you have some idea of what will get me annoyed, and I will be there to help if someone or something is causing problems for you. ![]() Melody's restful waterfall Briefly, use some common sense and don't completely ignore the fact that whatever you place on your parcel has to be looked at by everyone else from the outside; so a huge black cube, or a house that looks like a blazing sun on the outside at night, or raising shear walls of ground around your parcel to hide away from everyone else, as nice as any of them may be from the inside, can be an eye sore to the poor soul living next to you, and will almost certainly incur my displeasure; as will turning your parcel into a permanent plywood box building site. Please do any habitual excessive building above the clouds, or preferably use an authorised sand box, that's what they are for. ![]() Villa excavated from beneath Melody's main house at great risk, and with a lot of shovelling! Complete with wonderful thermal pool for bathing. ![]() Vbinnia's airship hanger I consider most of Ambrose's tenants my friends, and we actually encourage residents to wander about and get to know their neighbours, most are proud of what they have and will be happy to show you around. ![]() The Halloween party was a blast! Some explanations for those that are new to land rental or don't know about these things: Ambrose is a PRIVATE SIM, and is NOT part of the mainland, purchased by me from from Linden Labs and kept in existence by a monthly MAINTENANCE FEE paid to Linden Labs (this is where all the rent payments end up after payment to me). Notice that the word 'Tier' and 'Premium Account' never appear; those words only apply to to the mainland continents, they are not needed to own a private island or rent land on one. There can only ever be one owner of Ambrose, and that is me, it's locked into the system, as Linden Labs only want to deal with one person. This is also the reason no land is for sale, I would consider that dishonest, as I can reclaim any land rented, or supposedly purchased, with the press of a button. A technique that has been used in the past to rip people off. Even on the mainland there can only be one estate owner, so buying and owning anything less than a complete sim, is not really possible, except for the self deluded. or those that don't bother to read read SL's small print. ![]() Jean's very mysterious house at dusk Incidentally, it's referred to as an a private island, not because it is surrounded by water (which is an illusion, you can't cross it) but because it is not connected to any other sim; unless one individual or group owns the other Islands as well, or has allowed another owner to connect them, hence ensuring privacy. This can be seen quite clearly on the main map of an SL viewer. Melody's mansion, always a welcoming place Ambrose is what is known as a Class 5 Sim. This means in effect it has dedicated processor all to itself, and is not quite so susceptible to LAG and the other very trying torments that SL can throw at you. The catch is, a Class 5 is a premium product and costs accordingly. Be careful of what you are attempting to buy or rent as some land owners can be very vague about what sort of sim you will be setting up home on. Also don't forget that any prices quoted in weeks rental, have to be worked out thus to get the monthy rate (weeks rent) x 52 / 12 , then you can compare it to my rates. ![]() A crowded east shore ![]() Bung's cosy house boat I hope this small sample of Ambrose Island has been of some help. You can contacted me or Melody by various means in world and out. I live in the UK as does Melody, and you will find me in world at various times during the day (GMT) and most often in the evening. IM's are also forwarded to me as emails, so I will receive it one way or another even if I am off line, and will respond asap. In-world: send an Instant Message to Vbinnia Radek or Melody Siamendes Real-world send email to Vbinnia Radek or Melody Siamendes Read the Covenant Read Residents stories Read How to use the land controls Read Control permissions of objects on your land The Future: No one can predict it. but I do have plans to extend Ambrose with another full sim and a leisure sim for sailing, diving, and generally lounging about on, and of course for me to have elbow room to fly about in the sky over, hopefully making it even more pleasant and enjoyable for those that decide to stay here with us. This can't happen until the economic climate settles and whatever government happens to end up running UK in the coming months decides how hard I am going to be hit by VAT, fluctuations in currencys, or how stable financially Ambrose can stay. So it won't come to be for while yet. Kind
regards, Vbinnia :) P.S. If anyone is into Victorian Steampunk, drop by, I would love to meet you. Melody is looking for people interested in philosophy :) |
