WMG has today announced a new and important photography initiative. Zelda Cheatle has been hired to curate an international photography collection for WMG. The collection will have an international remit and focus on works from the 20th and 21st Century. Combining the grandeur of photography’s best known names with contemporary work, it will collect whole cross sections of renowned artist’s collections together with rare iconic images. In 1981, Zelda Cheatle took over the Print Room at the Photographers’ Gallery and in 1989 opened The Zelda Cheatle Gallery in London, which closes September 2005. Zelda Cheatle regularly appears in the media and lectures on the development of the photograph as art . Mehmet Dalman, founder and CEO of WMG, who has been a collector for many years, commented: “We have already acquired the vintage prints of the highly-respected photographer Eve Arnold which represents the foundation of what will be a significant photographic collection. WMG currently plans, during the course of next year, to develop a Photography Fund.”
