Will of Elizabeth Lambert Gorwyn, Spinster of Cheriton Bishop , Devon
31 December 1819
 

This is the Last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Lambert Gorwyn of Lambert otherwise Lambford situate within the parish of Cheriton Bishop in the County of Devon, Spinster first I give to my brother John the sum of twenty one pounds also I give to my brother in law George Arden and to Joan his wife the sum of fifty pounds apiece Also I give to Susanna Cann my sister the sum of ten pounds Also I give to my brother George the sum of ten pounds Also I give to my nephew George the son of my brother George the sum of ten pounds Also I give to John Gorwyn of Bradley in the parish of Crediton my nephew the sum of ten pounds Also I give to my nephew William Lambert Gorwyn the sum of ten pounds Also I give to my sister Ann the wife of John of the parsh of   in the County of Kent the sum of fifteen pounds Also I give unto Francis Arden Mary Arden George Arden  Christoper Arden and Ann Arden being children of my brother in law George Arden and Joan his  wife the sum of forty pounds apiece whith sad several legacies above mentioned I order to be paid to the said legaters respectively in lawful English  money at the end of one year after my death Also I give to  Arden  being the son also of George Arden and Joan his  wife (that is to say!) Charlotte, Henry and Joan the like sum of forty pounds apiece of lawful English mony when they severally  arrive to the age of twenty one years respectively Also I give to my two nieces, daughters of my Brother in law  Bryant the sum of twenty one pounds and ten shillings apiece when they arrive to their respective ages of tenty one years Also I give to the poor of the parish of Cheriton Bishop in the said county the sum of forty shillings to be distributed amongst them by my executrix as soon as convenient after my death and lastly I give devise  and bequethed to my niece Eizabeth Arden  all  and singular my freehold and other lands consisting of several houses tenements messuages and farms whatsoever or whichever situated and called  or known by whatsoever value or monies with the appurts. Thereunto respectively belongng to the said lands houses tenements messuages and farms as aforesaid with its appurts unto the said Elizabeth Arden my niece her heirs and assigns  for ever And as to all the rest residue  and remainder of my goods chattels  and effects of what kind or nature soever  it may be after waiting the said several legacies my funeral expenses my just debts and expense of  proving this my will I give the same also to my niece Elizabeth Arden whom I hereby make ordain whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills and wills codicil and codicils by me made  and  this and no other to be my last will and testament written on two sheets of paper in  whereof  I have  to the first sheet put my hand and to the second or last sheet my hand and    day of january and in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen|-| Elizabeth Lambert Gorwyn  88 signed sealed published and declared by the aforesaid Elizabeth Lambert Gorwyn the testatrix to be and for all last will and testament the presence of us  who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testarix and in the presence of  each other  The sign of  Mary Passmore  John Grover  W Tucker

In my Last Will and Testament I have bequeathed a legacy to my nieces the Miss Bryants which legacy I tooke as having paid it during my life given under my hand this fourth day of December in the year of our lord one thousand eight-hundred and eighteen |-|

Appeared  Personally William Cann of Oakhampton in the County of Devon Builder and William Tucker of Drewsteignton in the County of Devon, yeoman and made oath that they knew and were well appointed with Elizabeth Lambert Gorwyn late of Cheriton Bishop and having often seen her write and subscribe  are hereby also being well arquainted with the manner and character of handwritting and subscription and having now a carefully viewed and perused that paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be a Codicil to the last will and testament of the said deceased being in the words following to wit in my last will and testament I bequeathed a legacy to my nieces Miss Bryants which legacy I revoke as having paid it during my life given under my hand paid fourth day of December in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen and thus subscribed Elizabeth Lambert Gorwyn these  said they do-verily and in their  believe the said signature to be the proper handwriting and subscription of the said deceased  /- On the twenty third day of December One thousand eight hundred and nineteen the said William Cann and William Tucker were duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit by virtue of  the Codicil hereto annexed
