Rigel
Kehailan Rodan
Pure-bred Arabian colt
Date of birth: 28 June 2006

Rigel at 15 hours old
We originally intended to name him Altair, after the brightest star in the constellation Aquila, The Eagle. However, someone else had beaten us to it so we had to go with our second choice, Rigel. Never mind, Rigel is still a very bright star! It is a blue supergiant which forms the western foot of the hunter Orion in the constellation of that name. Rigel is also the name of one of Sheik Ilderim's team of Arabian horses driven by Ben-Hur in the famous chariot race which takes place in Lew Wallace's great novel of that name.
'The sheik spoke of them as the priceless, and it was a good saying.'
- Lew Wallace, Ben-Hur
