Lesley and Arabian mare Tiff

  Lesley Skipper

Lesley Skipper spent her early childhood in North Yorkshire obsessed with horses, but then lost touch with the horse world until adulthood. She spent the interim years travelling and studying Russian history, going off to Russia on her own at a time when very few Western Europeans went there.

Marriage into a horsey family rekindled her early enthusiasm for horses. She and her husband soon acquired an expanding 'family' of horses, which they keep purely for the pleasure of working with them, training them and in turn learning from them. Voluntary redundancy after nearly 20 years in the Civil Service enabled her to realise a cherished project of writing a book about Arabian horses (The Arabian Show Horse, published by J.A. Allen). Inside Your Horse's Mind: A Study of Equine Intelligence and Human Prejudice followed in 1999.

In 2003 J.A. Allen published her third book, Realize Your Horse's True Potential, and she has just completed a fourth, to be published by J.A. Allen in 2005.

She writes about equestrian matters and Russian history and has contributed to various magazines, including Horse & Rider, Riding, Horse, Dressage, and various regional newspapers and magazines.

As well as being an Internet Liaison member for the Classical Riding Club, she is a regular contributor to the latter's quarterly Newsletter. She is also a member of the Equine Behaviour Forum, and regularly contributes to its newsletter, Equine Behaviour.
