VRC has been released by Ross Carlson, to what can only be described as the delight of the VATSIM community. This means Controllers mostly, but it is my belief after a three hour session yesterday morning, 14/4/06, that pilots will benefit greatly from this new and advanced ATC client As you can see from the image on the left VRC has been built from the ground up to be a window based product. this is so that controllers who have multiple monitors can configure there own controlling environment to their needs. I have only been controlling myself for about three weeks, and I have to say found myself struggling a little bit trying to remember the commands etc for ASRC, but VRC is intuitive and so I feel fairly confident after only a short time of use.
![]() II suspect this more to do with the Windows environment than anything else. There are numerous extra's that where just not available in ASRC, this is not to say that ASRC was not an excellent piece of software in it's own right, but that Ross has produced the next evolutionary developmental stage in ATC. I'm sure the new version of ASRC will be equally impressive, of course we all remember Betamax and VHS and what happened with that developmental saga. One of the most impressive areas on the Metacradft site is the manual section, the quick start guide is superb and written in plain English. The main manual has been reproduced in 11 languages, this in itself is remarkable and I can only assume that the documentation for each will be equally as good as the English version. So in conclusion and without really telling you much, other than to wet your appetite's, Ross Carlson has produced a simply fantastic product. I believe it will fly (excuse the pun) around the controlling community within a few days and that virtually all controllers will convert. Already I have seen mentioned in the forums that those controllers with only one monitor seem ready to upgrade and get another based on what they have seen on their one screen. So get yourself over to http://www.metacraft.com/vrc and download this vital software package now. I have produced a short film to compliment this review you can view it here
