Reasons why not to go MacintoshGo to: Previous reason / Index / Next reason Reason 28 : "I only want a computer for e-mail and Internet"
The majority of people simply aren't that interesting in computers i.e. a normal person and see them as a necessary evil to... do stuff, like access the Internet, or the occasional bit of word processing. If you're one of those people, you probably see computers as appliances, and your anticipated use of that appliance to be rather limited. So you perhaps see a premium priced brand of computer, like a Mac, as a bit extravagant for you. Any cheapo, minimalist PC box will suffice, surely. Like, why spend big bucks on a top of the range toaster with all the bells & whistles, if you only want it for the occasional slice of plain white now and again? But then again, if you're new to computers, perhaps you simply can't foresee what you could find a use for one for. When you actually have a computer sitting in front of you, and you play around with it more and more, and read about things computers can do nowadays unlike with the aforementioned toaster you may find you'd like to do more with it and develop an interest in it you never anticipated... You may find you have a knack for writing music. You may find a renewed interest in photography which digital photography makes so much easier. You may find making your own DVDs from old camcorder films invaluable. And you may find that the cheap, minimalist PC you got to fit your anticipated uses, when presented with these more demanding tasks, is a little lacking in grunt, missing those costly features and specifications you didn't think you'd need, and lacking in useful bundled software that would have made these tasks so much easier. You may find that a Mac would have had all these things as standard. Don't get me wrong, a better spec PC would likely fit the bill also, but just be wary of excluding a Mac from your buying choices on the basis of you believing yourself to be not interested in computers enough to justify one. You might become interested when you have one. Go to: Previous reason / Index / Next reason
