Reason 14 : "Macs are obsolete, yesterday's technology"

Validity level: * * - - -

As pointed out in the 'PCs and Macs are all the same' item, hardware wise, Macs and PCs are indeed all pretty much the same under the skin nowadays. This architecture can trace its origins back to 1981, and its CPU family back to the early 1970s. You could argue that this architecture is imperfect, too wrapped up in legacy compromises, archaic in places, and indeed "Yesterday's technology"... But if that's so, these criticisms are inherent to all PCs, not just Macs. An unfortunate state of afairs, from an idealist standpoint at least, but sadly, that's the way it has to be.

Since 1981 however, obviously, newer standards, interfaces, and technologies have come along that are bolted onto the existing architecture, and undoubtedly, some of those developments will have made it onto one PC brand before the others. Some technological innovations make it to wide acceptance on other PC brands first, with the Mac following later, but the reverse is also often true. One thing's for sure, PC technology never stands still, and who's behind today, could very well be leading the pack tomorrow.
