comes to the Reading area |
Wednesday 7th October
Why are we doing this? There are around 1.5 million people
with learning disabilities in the UK. They are often invisible within our
society. Tony Phelps-Jones is walking 1,000 miles in the company of people
with learning disabilities to make visible these invisible
neighbours. How does it work? Tony walks 100 miles in each of
the 10 weeks: for five days he will walk 20 miles a day and he hopes to be
joined by many others! Every day there will be inclusive events. You are
invited to walk with Tony and with people with learning disabilities. Walk
for one mile, or many; walk on one day, or more. Please come and share in
this unique journey. The Reading walk, Wednesday 7th
October Tony will walk from Oxford to Abingdon for lunch, and then
on to Dorchester-on-Thames for afternoon tea. He will then travel by car
to Sonning and walk from there, in due course following the Kennet to The
Oracle. For the final stage of the walk, (from The Fisherman's Cottage,
224 Kennet Side, Reading, RG1 3DW, to Greyfriars Church, Friar Street) we
hope he will be joined by a number of people with learning disabilities.
At Greyfriars Church there will be tea for the walkers, followed by a
celebration led by members of the Causeway Prospects groups in the Reading
area. The walk will start at 4.30 hopefully arriving at Greyfriars no
later than 5.30. The Celebration will start at 6.30 finishing at 8pm. You
can take part in the walk with Tony, or come to the celebration. If you
wish, you can also sponsor the project. Sponsorship forms can be
downloaded from www.prospects.org.uk/index.php/walk_with_me We hope
that you will be able to join us and together make a stand to bring about
real change for people who are often marginalised and
forgotten. |

Prayers
Praying together for the people of the Airfield
We shall be praying for
our Church and community, usually on the first Sunday in each month at 10am in
the Library area at the school. Please join in when you are ready, and feel free
to leave when you wish.
Share & Prayer:
An informal prayer meeting held on Tuesdays during
school terms jointly with Christ Church. All are welcome. 9:45 - 11:15am in the
Stenner Lounge, followed by coffee in the Rainbow Cafe. Contact Mary Carpenter
(961 8144).
Prayer requests:
If you want prayer (especially in urgent circumstances)
speak to Martyn Neads or, if he is not available, Nancy Quinnell or Mary
Carpenter who will pass the request on. Generally we will pray at intervals over
a three or four-day period but it is always helpful if the original request is
followed up when the situation changes.
Housegroups
Mondays (usually fortnightly) at 7:30pm at
Nancy and David's.
Next meeting - contact Nancy Quinnell.
Wednesdays during school terms at 8:15pm. Contact Mary Carpenter
for details of the next meeting.
