The minutes of the
AGM 2000 were unanimously accepted as a true representation
There were no
matters arising
Paul Hudson congratulated
the Club members on a successful first year. He highlighted the attendance of
many junior members particularly on the evening meets, which he regards as a
measure of the health of the Club. A large variety of meets have taken place
during the year including rock climbing, walking, snow holing, ice climbing,
and Family Meets and he was encouraged to see a continuing enthusiasm for all
areas of mountaineering. Paul also represents the Club at the Yorkshire and
Humberside Area BMC meetings where local, national and international
mountaineering issues are discussed. He finished his Report by thanking all
members for all the hard work they have put in to making this first year a
memorable one.
Steve Girt
presented the Secretary’s Report for 2000-2001. The Secretary’s
responsibilities currently cover minute taking, correspondence, managing the
Club’s website, organizing meets, and membership applications:-
Meetings – No
official committee meetings have been held through the year, which has reduced
the Secretary’s workload considerably. This does, however, break the Club
Rules.
Correspondence – There has been frequent
correspondence with the BMC regarding such issues as a Club representative at
the Yorkshire and Humberside Area Meetings (PH), access to Guiseley Wall for
juniors, Membership, Insurance, Foot and Mouth, and Huts. The Club is listed on
the BMC website and there is a link to our own web page.
The Club also receives advertisements and news from
organizations such as Training Centres, Courses, Retailers and Equipment
manufacturers. Membership of the BMC includes a monthly copy of High Mountain
Sports. Each individual member should also receive a personal copy of Summit
magazine.
Several local retailers have been approached to offer
discount to Club Members
Web Site – a Club website has been created. All
documents such as Club Membership, Club History, Meet Reports, and a photo
archive are stored here on open access. There are also links to other related
sites as well as a Club Noticeboard.
Meet Organisations – a great deal of effort has been
spent organizing the Club’s Meets throughout the year.
New Members – The Club membership has increased
through the year. The new members are Paul Dilnot, Lee Stevenson, Tom Corden,
Paul Thomas, and Sammy Driver. The Club has received one other speculative
enquiry.
Adam gave the
Treasurers report. The accounts will be attached in due course. In summary the
Club was in credit to the tune of £11, had credit worth £40, but had debts of
£146. The main reason for the large debt was the cancellation of the Spring
Family Meet due to Foot and Mouth where the Club lost it’s deposit of £100.
The Club’s three
officers were re-elected unopposed
A considerable
discussion was held regarding meet venues for the coming year. A particular
problem is access to the hills during the current foot and mouth crisis.
Suggestions were raised with access problems in mind despite the feeling that current
restrictions will be eased. The suggestions were:- North Wales Meet, Stanage
climbing, potholing, snow holing, barbeques, Scottish Winter Meet, Ladhar
Bheinn by boat, and dry slope skiing. The meet list for 2001-2002 will be
published on the website.
Two motions were
received. Both of these were accepted unanimously. They were:-
Club Fees for
2001/2002 - £11 Full; £3.50 concessions
The Office of
President to be on a 3 Year Term
Steve Burras
outlined the Club’s plan to run a trip to trek to the Langtang valley and climb
Naya Kanga (5844m). The outline plan is for a 3-week trip in April 2002. The
target budget is £1000 per person. During the next few months Steve Burras will
be arranging meetings to discuss the plans in more detail.
1. Two local retailers have expressed an interest in giving discount to club members on the understanding that they are regular customers. The Club would like to encourage its members to support local shops.
