Rosemary Wilman ARPS
and
Derry Wilman ARPS

Derry sadly died of cancer in October 2004. Some of his images can be seen on this site and in Rosemary's lectures.

Who am I?

My interest in photography was sparked in 1987 when Keith Vaughan, a research chemist from Nova Scotia doing collaborative work with my husband Derry, stayed with us for a month. He just happens to be one of Canada's top amateur photographers. This rekindled Derry's interest in photography and I very soon decided I was not going to just carry the tripod, so went out and bought a camera. Photography became and remained a major interest which we shared until Derry’s death.

Our two children also became interested in photography and in the late 80s we all joined Epsom Camera Club. Derry and I rapidly became involved in photographic administration, firstly at Club level, then with Surrey and the RPS. I have been on Epsom’s committee since 1990, holding the offices of Secretary, Vice-Chairman and three years as Chairman. I am currently Programme Secretary.

In 1993 Derry & I also joined Molesey Photographic Club to provide a new challenge in our photography. Also in 1993 we were invited to join the Surrey Photographic Association Committee. I was Chairman from 2001-2003 and continue as a member of the Committee.

In 1991 we joined the Royal Photographic Society. Derry, rapidly followed by our son, Paul, and me gained our LRPS. In 1997 it was a rare event when both Derry and I were awarded our ARPS in the Nature category on the same day. I am a member of the Creative, Digital, Nature and Travel Groups. I have been an elected member of Council since 1996 and since 2001 Chairman of the Exhibitions Committee. I have recently been invited to sit on the Licentiateship Panel.

I regularly enter the British Photographic Exhibition (BPE4*) circuit and an occasional International Exhibition. I would like to have the time to enter more of these.

For some years I have been on the SPA Judges' A List and I also have a number of lectures available. Until Derry’s death we lectured together and I am still presenting our images in the lectures.  In due course I shall have new lectures available showing only my images.

My diverse photographic interests include travel, landscape, natural history, sport, people or anything that takes my eye. Derry and I always did most of our photography together and we were fortunate in the travelling we had been able to do. In 2003 Derry fulfilled his 16 year wish to see the Polar Bears in Churchill, so we holidayed apart for the first time. Sadly this was to be his last trip but his photographs remain here for you to see.
