Man's Studio output takes in a period of (so far) 33 Years. Here they all are in their glory

Revelation Revelation - January 1969. PYE Records

And In The Beginning; Sudden Life; Empty Room; Puella! Puella (Woman! Women); Love; Erotica; Blind Man; And The Castles Rise In Children's Eyes; Dont Just Stand There (Come In Out Of The Rain); The Missing Pieces; The Future Hides It's Face.

Michael (Micky) Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Roger "Deke" Leonard (Guitar & Vocals), Clive John (Keyboards, Guitar & Vocals), Jeff Jones (Drums), and Ray Williams (Bass & Vocals)

Conceived as a concept album Man's debut album has become something of a psychedelic classic. Whilst not necessarily as approachable as an album as later one's, the change from the pop sound of the Bystanders showcased an extraordinary talentCompletely ignored at home, it certainly did the business in Europe where one single, Erotica, charted in several countries even making the top spot in France. Many fans dismissed the album but have found that a re-listen certainly improves their view of the record.

2ozs Of Plastic With A Hole In The Middle 2ozs Of Plastic With A Hole In The Middle - September 1969. Dawn Records

Prelude/The Storm; It Is As It Must Be; Spunk Box; My Name Is Jesus Smith; Parchment And Candles; Brother Arnolds Red And White Striped Tent.

Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Clive John (Keyboards, Guitar & Vocals), Jeff Jones (Drums) and Ray Williams (Bass & Guitar)

Heavier but more approachable than the first album, it includes three tracks that featured in the bands live set up to 1999, The Storm, Spunk Rock (Box) and Brother Arnold's. In fact Spunk Rock, as it was originally called, was to become one of the lasting Man Tracks and really helped develop their reputation as a good live act. One further track, Clive's It Is As It Must Be, was supposed to be called Shit On The World but record company protests prevailed.

Man Man - March 1971. Liberty Records.

Romain; Country Girl; Would The Christians Wait Five Minutes? The Lions Are Having A Draw; Daughter Of The Fireplace; Alchemist.
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Clive John (Keyboards, Guitar & Vocals), Martin Ace (Bass & Vocals)and Terry Williams (Drums).

A new line up for the new album. When released this album was derided and generally scorned by the British Press, mainly because of the tracks Alchemist and Will The Lions, both tracks are long and were perceived as rambling. BUT the album was loved in Germany. It contains the classic, Romain, and Daughter Of The Fireplace was still being played live in 1999

Do You Like It Here Are You Settling In? Do You Like It Here Now? (Are You Settling In Alright?) - November 1971. United Artists Records.

Angel Easy; All Good Clean Fun; We're Only Children; Many Are Called But Few Get Up; Manillo; Love Your Life
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Clive John (Keyboards, Guitar & Vocals), Martin Ace (Bass & Vocals) and Terry Williams (Drums).

By the time of this, their fourth album, Man were finding their feet both musically and within the realms of the studio. This album contains the psychedelic classic Many Are Called But Few Get Up, still the live set closer. Manillo, a Martin Ace ballad is also a stand out track which re-appeared in the set in 1998. Clive left for the first time soon after the album was released.

Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day Do You Like It Here Now? (Are You Settling In Alright?) - November 1971. United Artists Records.
Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day - November 1972. United Artists Records.

C'Mon; Keep On Crinting; Bananas; Life On The Road.
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Clive John (Guitar), Phil Ryan (Keyboards & Vocals), Will Youatt (Bass & Vocals) and Terry Williams (Drums).

A new line up for another new album. Martin had gone, Deke had been abandoned and Clive had returned. This album is considered to be the masterpiece by any of the line ups. Four tracks and each one a gem. C'Mon has been twisted, manipulated and just completely mutated over the years and is still the highlight of the live set, showing why Micky Jones is considered to be one of rocks greatest guitarists. And then Bananas, the bands anthem, a guide to smoking dope and possibly a better gardening lesson than you get from Gardeners World. The album was produced by Wales' supreme rocker Dave Edmunds who even contributes some slide guitar to C'Mon.

Back Into The Future Back Into The Future - September 1973. United Artists Records.

A Night In Dads Bag; Just For You; Back Into The Future; Don't Go Away; Ain't Their Fight; Never Say Nups To A Nepalese; Sospan Fach; C'Mon; Jam Up Jelly Tight/Oh No Not Again (Spunk Rock '73)
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Phil Ryan (Keyboards & Vocals), Will Youatt (Bass & Vocals), Alan "Tweke" Lewis (Guitar)and Terry Williams (Drums).

Another line up change with Clive leaving for the last time - enter Alan "Tweke" Lewis. This album, originally a double on vinyl had a studio side and a live side. The studio side contains one real Man classic, Will Youatt's Ain't Their Fight, a story of a drug bust at a house he was living at. The live side features the Gwalia Male Choir performing the traditional Welsh Song Sospan Fach and then doing backing vocals on C'Mon.

Rhin's Wino's And Lunatics Rhino's Wino's And Lunatics - April 1974. United Artists Records.

Taking The Easy Way Out Again; The Thunder And Lightning kid; California Silks And Satins; Four Day Louise; Intro; Kerosene; Scotch Corner; Exit.
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Terry Williams (Drums), Malcolm Morley (Keyboards, Guitar and Vocals) and Ken Whaley (Bass).

Another new line up for another new album, this time Phil and Will left to form The Neutrons and Tweke was unceremoniously dumped to make way for the returning Deke Leonard and ex Help Yourself members Malcom Morley and Ken Whaley. Probably the most famous album amongst non-manoraks it certainly shows a more commercial approach than previously seen. The multi talented Malcolm, brings the influence of the Helps in his Thunder And Lightning Kid, and his great voice added to the great harmonies on California Silks And Satins. For the rest of the tracks Four Day Louise is one of my favourites and it is a shame that Deke's note that they would be playing this for the next 29 years did not come true.

Slow Motion Slow Motion - October 1974. United Artists Records

Hard Way To Die; Grasshopper; Rock'n'Roll You Out; You Don't Like Us; Bedtime Bone; One More Chance; Rainbow Eyes; Day And Night
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Ken Whaley (Bass) and Terry Williams (Drums).

Down to a four piece with Malcolm's departure, Slow Motion reflected the sombre mood the band found themselves in with songs such as Hard Way To Die and You Don't Like Us. This album has certainly divided the fans with a love it or leave it attitude. However the songs are well constructed and Micky's Rainbow Eye's and Deke's Day And Night being stand out tracks in my opinion.

The Welsh Connection The Welsh Connection - March 1976 MCA Records.

The Ride And The View; Out Of Your Head; Love Can Find A Way; The Welsh Connection; Something is Happening; Car Toon; Born With A Future.
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Phil Ryan(Keyboards & Vocals), Terry Williams (Drums) and John Mckenzie (Bass and Vocals).

The final album of the 1970's, TWC saw Phil Ryan return to the ranks of the Manband and the recruitment of John McKenzie. Once again the strongest songs came from Deke with Ride And The View and Out Of Your Head. Of the other tracks the title piece rambles a little too long and does not really give the opportunity to expand and John's Love Will Find Away is not really Man

The Twang Dynasty - November 1992. Road Goes On Forever Records.

A Feather On The Scale Of Justice; Mad On Her; Jumpin' Like A Kangaroo; The Chimes At Midnight; The Price; Circumstances; Women; The Chinese Cut; Out Of The Darkness;
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Martin Ace (Bass & Vocals) and John "Pugwash" Weathers (Drums).

After 16 years, six of which were spent apart the band released The Twang Dynasty. An attempt to record an album in 1984 had gone wrong following contractual difficulties. Perhaps a little rockier than expected, it does contain some really good songs including The Wings Of Mercury, dedicated to John Cipollina. The opening track, Feathers,  is also a favourite with fans.

Call Down The Moon Call Down The Moon - March 1995. Hypertension Records

Call Down The Moon; If I Were You; Dream Away; Blackout; The Man With X-Ray Eyes; Heaven And Hell; The Girl Is trouble; Drivin' Around; Burn My Working Clothes
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Martin Ace (Bass & Vocals) and John "Pugwash" Weathers (Drums).

Recorded in Seattle late 1994 with Ron Sanchez in the production chair; Call Down The Moon shows a return the musical ideals started on Rhino's. The title track is a Micky Classic using a guitar lick developed from the live versions of 1972's C'Mon. Full of good songs and some great lyrics from Deke, rhyming sweaty with Serengeti and culminating in a Man classic Drivin' Around. One of the great things is Deke finding his keyboard playing skills after twenty years, which makes a great difference to the sound.

Endangered Species Endangered Species - June 2000. Evangeline Records.

Conflict Of Interest; Stuck Behind The Popemobile; Saints And Sinners; Face To Face; Hangin' On; Tie Up The Wind; Victim Of Love; Love Isn't Love.
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Martin Ace (Bass & Vocals), Phil Ryan (Keyboards & Vocals) and Bob Richards (Drums).

This album sees another line up change with the return of Phil for the third time and new Drummer Bob Richards. Although a 5 year gap between Call Down The Moon and this, I believe it was worth the wait. Conflict had started life as a song called Do It and is a classic Man track. Phil's return sees Keyboards taking a real prominent role in the Manband sound for the first time in 24 years. All the tracks are great in their way but Deke's Love Isn't Love and Martin's Popemobile really cook.

Undrugged Undrugged - April 2002. Point Records.

Scotch Corner; Manillo; Asylum; Dream Away; Day And Night; Babe I'm Gonna Leave You; I Always Thought The Walrus Was Protected; Trying To Get To You; Listen To Me Sister; Sail On Sailor
Micky Jones (Guitar & Vocals), Deke Leonard (Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals), Martin Ace (Bass & Vocals), Gareth Thorrington (Keyboards) Bob Richards (Drums) And Terry Williams (Drums).

Man's latest album Is a strange beast, Recorded over a 6 year period it features the 1996 lineup of Micky, Deke, Martin and Terry for some of the tracks, however things ground to a halt in 1997 when Terry departed and Deke was taken ill. Put on the back burner, the album was revived in 2001 following a persistent interest from the bands fans to see the product.
With a combination of songs from the bands extensive history and a few covers this is a great addition to the bands recorded output and a worthy addition to anybody's CD Collection.

Please note that any comments made about the albums are Personal and in no way reflect the opinion of the Manband and it's members past or present.
