After spending hours in make-up and costume, handsome Mike Smith was converted into the scruffy, shambling drunk you see in this picture. Many people are puzzled as to why it took so long ... or indeed why make-up and costume were necessary! After waiting until dusk, Mike was finally filmed in failing light, through clouds of artificial fog, and from behind! It was a great day out, and he even got paid.

Magical Close Up Championships
Mike Smith has been honoured with selection to compete in the British Magical Championships for Close Up Magic at Blackpool in 2001.
This will be Mike's second time in the championships. He was asked to compete in the stage competition (Archini & Smith) in 1996. Thanks to Derek Lever for the opportunity.

Mike Smith did so well at acting the part of a drunk, that they asked him back! This time Mike was asked to play the role of a builder. although he did point out that he would be the "skinniest builder" they had ever seen, it didn't seem to matter. So here's Mike with his work-mates after another hard day of eating, drinking, and standing around in front of cameras.
