After starting out as a teacher on the south coast near Brighton I then moved to a school in North London for 5 years, Aldershot for 12 years and then to Stoke-on-Trent in September 2000.

Whilst I had been taking photographs for many years it was not until I joined Blythe Bridge Camera Club that I realised how much better the quality of my photography might be.

I prefer to use film but for some event photography digital reduces the costs and can be more convenient. Nearly all of the monochrome images are derived from film and most of the colour ones are as well. The exception to this are the images from events which are mainly digitally captured. Last year saw the fourteenth school prom at which I took the "official" photographs and the first one I did digitally. Costs were definitely down but I made the mistake of producing a mini website for the school server. Whilst I do not profit from the events that I cover at my workplace I was disappointed that many pupils were content with low resolution images printed onto normal paper.

One of the consequences of my preference for traditional monochrome film images and printing on 16" by 12" paper is that any film sourced image is a negative scan done on a flatbed and hence different from the image derived in the darkroom.
