The owner of this website is shocked by the news (11th July 2003)that the souvenir company, Franklin Mint, is about to take legal action against the Diana, Princess of Wales charity that helps victims of land mines. The legal action is being taken because the Diana, Princess of Wales Trust attempted to prevent the Franklin Mint from using Diana's name and face without authorisation. The Franklin Mint won the case 5 years ago on a technicality related to the "freedom" of speech. Now the Franklin Mint is preparing a case based on the fact that the Diana charity should not have attempted to prevent the use of Diana's name and face on Franklin Mint souvenirs.
The Diana charity has to keep 16 million British pounds (approx 25 million US dollars) available to fight what may be a protracted law case that could be lost because of the same "freedom" of speech technicality. This means that the 16 million pounds will not be available to help those maimed by land mines left behind after conflicts, and money will not be available to help fund the removal of land mines. The owner of this website would like all readers of this news to disseminate it on websites all around the world. This is because the Franklin Mint will be effectively condemning thousands of people, mainly children, to be killed or maimed because millions of land mines will not be cleared as quickly as possible.
Effectively, the Franklin Mint will be promoting the use of land mines to kill and maim children by depriving the charity of money needed for the purpose of clearing land mines.
So, whenever you see an advertisement by the Franklin Mint, remember that the company is doing its best to withhold aid from those who have been maimed by mines and will effectively cause hundreds or even thousands of children to be killed or maimed by uncleared land mines in the future.
