The airport bus service from Oslo Torp to Oslo Galleri Bus Station
costs NOK 98.00 (GBP 9.00) each way. The bus station and the main
railway station are very close to each other. Rate of exchange
(06/08/03) GBP 1.00 = NOK 11.09. A different site shows the fare
as NOK 120.00 = GBP 10.90.
It is claimed that every Ryanair passenger will have a seat on
the coach. It is 123km or 76 miles from Torp to Oslo. It is roughly
a two hour journey.
The train from nearby Sandefjord station costs NOK 196.00 (GBP
18.00) each way at current rates. Senior Citizens like me travel
half price. The cost of getting to Sandefjord from Torp by bus
is as yet unknown. This will be added when definite costs and
times have been found. The cost should be low because the distance
between Torp and Sandefjord is only 10km or 6.25 miles. I would
guess that it would be better for senior citizens to take the
train because one can get up and walk around a bit on a train
although it takes longer than the direct bus service.
Notes about Norway and Norwegian
Norwegian spelling has been revised to be more or less phonetic.
For example Central becomes Sentral which is often abbreviated
to S. Express is spelled Ekspress. The Norwegian underground railway
is called Tunnelbane (pronounced "tunnel barner" approx).
Stations are marked with a T in a circle in a square. Most younger
Norwegians speak at least some English.
Maps
The downloadable maps show the whole of central Oslo with the
con location in the north west corner in Slemdalsveien near the
Majorstuen Underground (T) station. There is a smaller, clearer
map of the area around the con location as well. Majorstuen is
roughly pronounced as my-or-stu-un by people in southern England.
Norway is NOT in the E.U. (The Common Market). The cost of most
everyday things is roughly twice that in Britain.
