Glass Act
Stephen
Glass is the next player to be heading to Vicarage Road. The Newcastle winger
is set to sign a two-year deal tomorrow to join Ramon Vega as Vialli's summer
spending takes off. This makes Glass the second Watford signing in as many
weeks as transfer activity hots up in the Vic.
Glass has been left out in the cold at Newcastle and a move to Watford is seen as a fresh challenge to the Scotsman, both Elton John and Vialli were key players in bringing in the 25-year old.
Glass joined Newcastle from Aberdeen when Dalglish was in charge, since then he has only made 31 appearances in a Newcastle shirt and scored 5 goals. Stephen has good pace and technique and can cross accurately which makes him an excellent signing for the Hornets.
Watford have been linked with a couple of players recently. One being Patrice Carteron from St. Etienne, who is also currently being tracked by both Sunderland and Charlton. The Frenchman plays at right-back which would be ideal for GV with Neil Cox on the transfer list. Man Utd veteran, Denis Irwin has also been linked with Watford.
Also being watched is Wayne Turk of non-league Salisbury, he is aparently available on a nominal fee.
Kenny Jackett has been appointed assistant manager at Queens Park Rangers by manager Ian Holloway. They appoint the former Watford man in an attempt to reverse their fortunes and head straight back up to the First Division following their relegation.
Ramon Vega was the first signing but he certainly won't be the last this summer according to Vialli, he is searching for a new backbone in a new-look Watford team. He is on the look out for a new centre-back, midfielder and forward before his team takes shape.
With the signing of Vega it seems likely this will attract top quality players to Watford and help them push for promotion this season. GV is not only accomplishing this with his first signing he has also fired a warning shot across Watford's rivals bows, this shows the ambitions of the club, that they want to succeed at the highest level.
Ramon Vega is First Summer Signing
(Thur 21st Jun) Watford have completed the signing of Celtic's defender Ramon Vega. He becomes Vialli's first signing for the Hornets.
30 year old, Vega has completed his move and celebrates with a three year contact with the club, he will link up with Vialli on 1 July.
Ramon has previously played for Swiss club Grasshopper where he made over a century of appearances, he then moved to Tottenham but was forced to move to Celtic due to lack of first-team football. This is where he helped the Scottish club to the treble last season.
Gianluca Vialli is looking to bolster Watford's defence which leaked so many goals last season. For more news visit the official website.
