Sometimes a dog will become very possessive with its favourite toy, removing the toy will spark off aggression and perhaps some growling. This could be a problem with young children around.

Each time you give a toy to your dog, remove it again after a few seconds, then return it and give the dog a good praise and a small treat. The dog will soon get to realize that when his toy is removed it actually gets him a treat.

Never let anyone tease your Westie, make sure that young children never torment your dog. Your Westie will become a very unhappy dog, torn between what he has been trained and the strong urge to prevent his torment.

If you have young children in the house, never leave them in the same room with your Westie unsupervised.
