CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Servers and Choir

These two groups provide a very important way of integrating young people into the normal pattern of worship. They both provide training, an opportunity to gain a more comprehensive knowledge of the formal worship, and an important role for young people in the life of the church. Currently about eight young people are involved in these two groups.

Prayers and Bears Adult and Toddler Group

This group meets on Friday afternoons at the Parish Rooms. The afternoon consists of a short talk/story, songs and prayer followed by craft and art activity. The rest of the time is free for play, chat, drinks, and biscuits. Adults with children from birth to school age are welcome and the group has grown to good numbers.

Junior Church at St Paul's

The children meet most Sundays in the year and all children between the ages of three and thirteen are welcome. The children meet either at the back of the church or in the Parish Rooms, depending on numbers and activities. Activities include stories, art and craft based on one of the readings for the day. The children return to the service for the Eucharist and have the opportunity to show the congregation their works of art at the end of the service.

Sunday School at St Nicholas

The children meet during the Sunday morning service in the committee room. Numbers vary from two to five children under the age of five. To accommodate the younger mix of children the leaders have introduced 'Godly Play' this year.

St Paul's Church of England Junior School

St Paul's is a Voluntary Controlled School and has strong links with St Paul's Parish. The inspection carried out under Section 23 to look at collective worship and opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils stated that the school "provides a very good PSHE and Religious Education programme which helps to develop the pupil's moral, social and cultural values. It provides a caring environment where pupils are valued and respected". There are good links with St Paul's Church. The incumbent, who would be a governor at the school, normally leads collective worship each week. The pupils attend the church for services at least three times a year as well as visiting the church during R.E. lessons.

Rainbows & Brownies

Rainbows meet in the Parish Rooms on Tuesdays and the group currently has about 15 children with three leaders. A range of activities, games, and crafts are undertaken. Most girls then move on to join the Brownies. There is also a local Beavers and Scouts group nearby.

St Paul's Playgroup

The playgroup meets during term time and is aimed at children between the ages of three and five. Sessions are run in both the morning and the afternoon and the attendance currently stands at 23 children. A holiday club is run outside of school term times.
