PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL

Composition of the PCC is fixed by resolution at the Annual Parochial Meeting. There are 15 ordinary members. Membership is for three years, with one third being elected each year. The PCC meets approximately seven times a year. The composition of the PCC and the sub-committees that are in place are represented in the diagram below. We recently worked with an external advisor to improve our strategic planning and define the vision for the parish.

The following is a brief resume of the work undertaken in some of the sub-committees in 2003

The Fabric Committee aims to make our church building a welcoming and safe environment for our regular congregation and visitors. The recommendations outlined in the quinquennial report are actively worked upon, the major task recently being repair work to all the windows. The lightning strike on the spire in January 2004, and the subsequent fire and loss of the bells is a current major focus of attention and the restoration is actively underway, working closely with the insurance company.

The Social Committee exists to promote the social activities and fellowship within the parish and is non-profit making. Activities are detailed in the Social section.

In 2003 the Mission & Outreach Committee supported the fund raising efforts on behalf of Yeldall Christian Centres, and Feed the Children. Funds were also raised for the Lower Sindh Project in Pakistan. In 2004 Mercy Ships and the Sudan Appeal have been supported. The Committee has been considering the output from a recent Vision Day at which all members of the parish were invited to offer views and discuss how to take our church forward over the next five to seven years.

The Fundraising Committee concentrates on raising funds for the repair and upkeep of the fabric of the church. Different avenues have been successfully explored including: approaching various bodies such as the Wokingham Society, the Town Council, and The Historic Preservation Trust; selling flower bulbs and Christmas cards of the church; encouraging sponsorship and running the annual Parish Bazaar.

The Youth and Children committee has been updating the Parish Children and Young People's Policy in line with changes to the Diocesan Guidelines. This includes ensuring anyone involved in working with children has obtained a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure.
