FINANCE

The Parish Share for 2004 is set at £66,913 and will be paid in full. However, part of this will need to be met from reserves and we face an increasing challenge to pay our Parish Share in full.
Clergy expenses are paid monthly and cover telephone costs, travel (car usage is paid at 40 pence per mile). Any other costs relating to the ministry in the parish are paid.
The Restoration Fund currently stands at £16,500 and this will cover the costs presently involved in the restoring of some of the windows. Since January 2000 over £54,000 has been expended on restoration work. A large proportion of this has been spent on the windows.
The annual bazaar usually raises up to £1,000 towards the general upkeep of the church and £400 for building restoration.
The Spire Renovation Fund target is £20,000. This will cover an improved lightning conductor system, stonework repairs and Health and Safety improvements in the bell tower. Currently, the fund stands at £4,500 and the Fundraising Committee is actively engaged in seeking ways of raising the balance.
Recently there have been specific fundraising activities. One very successful one was for the Mercy Ships project that raised over £4,000 and another was for replacement kneelers for the altar rail that amounted to £1,300.

Stewardship

The Parish has no material investments and all costs are met from giving by the congregation and wider community. There is a strong emphasis on tax efficient giving and the parish currently reclaims around £14,000 per annum under the gift aid scheme. In recent years St Paul's has always managed to fulfil its increasing parish share commitments on time, although it is becoming an increasing challenge to meet future funding requirements. To address this challenge the Stewardship Committee is currently organising a major stewardship campaign to be launched in January 2005. The committee recently met with the Diocesan Stewardship Advisor to commence this work. In the interim it is working to raise the profile of giving through frequent articles in the Spire magazine. The timing of the campaign for January is designed to ensure that the remainder of 2004 is cleared for Spire Renovation fundraising.
