RaceTracks!
Did I mention that I love track days?
This is a review in Alphabetical order of the racetracks I have ridden on since I started doing track days in 1999
Brands Hatch:
Fast, technical and scary in the wet. I have only ridden it once and that was through a downpour so torrential that a lifeboat would have been more use than a pair of sliders.
Great fun, but given the speeds you take some of the corners at, if you crash it could be nasty.
Cadwell Park (Full Circuit):
"The mountain" is a crazy piece of track. Respect to the pros who can get both wheels off the ground and still come out alive. For us common mortals caution is required as there is NO run off (e.g. at the hairpin the tyre barrier starts where the tarmac ends). A truly wonderful and technical track that is hard to master, but utterly rewarding.
Cadwell Park (Club Circuit):
The circuit is OK, but without "the mountain" it is not as exciting as the full circuit. The Club hairpin is quite nasty with 3 camber and tarmac changes and it can be downright horrible in the wet.
Darley Moor:Small Track with simple layout that is well suited to novices as it is not very intimidating (though narrow in places). I believe it has just been resurfaced.
Donington Park:Excellent Track. Technical, hard on brakes, fast and deceptive in places. Some people don't like the Melbourne loop, but I love it. Top fun.
Lydden Hill: Small and underrated track that is real fun to get right. Suits small bikes best and only has 4 corners, but the trick is in the cambers which dictate very different lines from what you would initially think.
Mallory: Good surface and simple layout make it novice friendly. Gerrards bend is a seriosly fast, long right-hander that can be a lot of fun. Beware of running wide at the exit though, grass doesn't have much grip.
Rockingham International:Exciting and great fun. The part of the track that uses the banking is fast, but dangerous as in some places the only thing to stop you if you fall is a concrete wall.
Rockingham National: Wonderful circuit with an excellent mix of corners. Technical, very physical and definetely my favourite.
Silverstone International: Awesome track. Fast with a good mix of corners some of which try to trick you into peeling in earlier than you should. Top fun.
Snetterton:If you like speed this is your track. 2 very fast straights plus the "Bomb hole" and Coram bend (fast!). The only two left-handers are better taken with caution as the left side of the tyre takes a lifetime to warm up here.
