Chris Law's ZX860RR

The story

I bought the bike out of MCN last December(2002) in boxes and ended up paying £1850 but it was minus the forks and radiator, but included a set of Dymags, two sets of PFM discs, a Brembo master cylinder and an Akro pipe.

I sold a set of discs, the flatslides, single seat and Akro pipe and clawed £750 back which went towards more goodies.

I heard on the ZX7 Owners club site about the 3mm oversize block so I put my order in which turned out to be around £1450.

The chassis is an ex-BSB superbike frame and swinging arm. I sent the arm off to be modified. The forks had Ohlins internals in last year so it was only right that I should send them off to have the legs gold nitrided and the uppers anodised bright gold.

I already had a ZXR crank with kit spec cams and blueprinted head in my ZX7R so out came the engine and all the good bits went into the ZX7RR along with the 3mm oversize pistons to make her upto 858cc.

I have also taken the best bits off my ZX7R and bought a lot more trick bits for the RR

I have had my bike on two dynos the first one gave 137.1 the second 136.1. I was told I need to go down two sizes on the main jet which should give me 140+ at the rear wheel.
