Has
anyone seen Sooty? - 22.10.03.
Missing
since Sun 19th October from his home at No1 Trindledown on Kennel
Lane (Next to the School) in Priestwood,. It backs onto one of the
new estate off Harvest Ride.
Sooty
is a male (neutered) all black cat. He was wearing a fluorescent
yellow collar with tag (although it has come off before) Distinguishing
features – He has “big feet” (he has an extra pad on each foot)
Sooty never goes far and ALWAYS comes when we call him, he has never
stayed out like this before, so although we fear the worst, we hope
for the best.
On
the Sunday he disappeared there were fireworks, he is quite a skittish
cat, may have got frightened and hidden somewhere, or have run and
got lost.
We
miss him terribly, 01344 453773 / 07712 776900

About
Priestwood & Garth
Priestwood
lies to the northwest of Bracknell town centre. On its southern
side is the Western Industrial Estate, centred around Western
Road. The local shopping facilities for Priestwood are in
Priestwood Square, this area hasn't changed much since it
was built in the early 1960s.
Up
History
Priestwood
Common was originally an area of common grazing land adjoining
Ascot Heath. In times past, it was frequented by many a highwayman.
The area appears to have been named after the monks of Hurley
Priory who, as Lords of the Manor of Warfield, made the parish
church their home in the 1320s when floods drove them from
Hurley. Since the housing estate was built, there have been
various reports of ghostly monks in the area.
The
Admiral Cunningham Pub, off Stoney Road, is one of Priestwood's
only historic houses. It was built at the turn of the century
as Priestwood Court, still remembered in Priestwood Court
Road, and became the home of the Gilder family. It was opened
as a hotel by the Admiral himself in 1954.
The
Garths were another well-known local family who have left
their mark on the area, this time in the form of Garth Hill
School. Mr.T.C.Garth was the master of Bracknell's local fox
hunt from 1855 to 1902. The hunt, which dates from the late
18th century, eventually became named after the man. Today
the Garth Hunt has merged with the South Berkshire at Mortimer.

Square accompanied by Chief Constable Peter Neyroud (Thames Valley’s
most senior police officer) and after a chat to the press, walked
along some of the beat together.
Peter
Neyroud discussed some of the problems that residents had been experiencing
in the area regarding the yough disorder and how the situation seemed
to have died down over the last few weeks.
The
issues of police funding were didscussed and Peter Neyroud explained
a little about where money was being allocated to help community
policing.

A
Community Event
Priestwood
and Garth held a Community day on Saturday 8th March 2003 between 11am
and 3pm at The Youth and Community Centre in Windlesham Road, Priestwood.
The
deputy mayor attended along with Inspector Virtue, PC Tracey Croucher
- Beat Officer for Priestwood and Garth and PC John Oblein - Crime Reduction
representing Thames Valley Police and departments within Bracknell Forest
Borough Council.
The
event was quite well attended and extremely informative. A large number
of the organisations and departments were interactive which made it interesting
and gave residents the chance to get involved, providing everyone with
a better understanding of what was available in the Borough and how people
benefit from their work.
Thames
Valley Police provided information on a number of topics, from recruitment
to victim Support and Crime Preventions. Residents had the opportunity
to have their mobile phones security marked by PC John Oblein, even the
Borough's Deputy Mayor took advantage of this service. (Pictured left)
The
Deputy Mayor gave her thanks to Priestwood and Garth residents for supporting
this special day. She went on to praise the organisations and Borough
Council departments for their continued work within the community and
expressed her delight in having been invited to the event. The Deputy
Mayor then went on to chat to residents and organisations there, showing
a genuine interest in was on display.

There
was a raffle, tickets for which were given at on entry, free of charge
and resulting in some very happy winners and some very good prizes. Refreshments
were also freely available.
The
Youth bus was in the car parked in the carpark outside, providing the
chance to have a tour and learn a little about what it provides for the
young, ie. computers, cafe area, music and more often than not, manned
by volunteers. The bus tours round Berkshire providing a very worthwhile
facility for the young.
There
were loads of freebies for the taking, plus literature on all organisations
and department appearing there..
There
will also be a large map of Priestwood where people were invited to put
their opinions on. Hot spots for crime or dark alleys, not enough street
lighting, dog mess hot spots. This particular area attracted many residents
and has provided information for the Borough Council and Local Police
which can in turn be addressed.
The
general concensus was that the Community Day was a great success, very
informative and enjoyable.
