About the Club

The Binfield Club was established as a club in 1906. It was formally a working mans club, but now, after much modenisation it has become a village social club, night after night of entertainment, member's draws and raffles, charity functions and of course, home for the British Legion (Binfield Branch) who have their own function agenda.

There are nights with live entertainment, whether it be bands, magic or comedy acts, the club provides the lot. Always a fun atmosphere with plenty of variety.

Members and guest are able to watch live sporting events as they happen, listen to music, play pool and have use of the fruit machines with generous prize money.

Alcohol prices are kept to a minimum and the club prides it's self as having one of the cheapest bar prices in the neighbourhood.

With membership not only does it allow you to visit when ever you wish, but allows you to enter all member's drawers and raffles, but it gives you the freedom to use all the facilities in the club, including the hire of the function room at very reduced rates.

Family members are welcome with a member, children are most welcome accompanied by an adult.

Also see Binfield Club News - for information on membership, hiring function room and much more too.

Club Facilities

Binfield Club has a full size snooker table in the snooker hall and is available to all members.

The club offers to use of pool table, football table, darts, fruit and lottery machines, juke box and wide screen TV for your entertainment.

There is a stage for the huge variety of entertainment provided plus dancefloor and ample seating area for your relaxation and comfort.

Membership to the club enables you the ownership of a fob for the front door enabling you to come and go at your leisure and to make full use of the facilities and take part in raffles and events.

A Hypnotic Experience was held at the Binfield Club featuring Martyn Williams on Friday 22nd November. Martyn put his spell on three unsuspecting members of the audience who, well lets just say, were not quite themselves that evening!!

Members' Draw

The Members' Draw takes place each week at different times and on different days to give each member a fair chance of participation and more opportunity to win.

Details of the times and dates of the Draw can be found on the notice board in the entrance to the Club and behind the bar within the Club.

Stewardship Licence

The Club has now operated a Stewardship Licence for the control of the Bar and Club since August 2002.

The Licensee has a fixed term business contract with the Club to provide manpower and other services for an agreed proportion of the Monthly Gross Profit from the Bar Sales which is designed to both encourage proper management of the bar and control costs for the Club. The Licensee employs all bar staff and has full control and responsibility over them which is meant to ensure that there is a clear and full understanding of where exact control of this area lies.

The Stewardship Licensee is Clive Kenneavy and he is supported by his partner Kelly.

Clive and Kelly are to marry during May 2003 on the Isle of Wight and the Committee takes this opportunity to congratulate them both on behalf of every Club Member and to wish them not only a delightful Wedding but also a happy and a very prosperous future together.

New Members and Guests are Welcome

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 2003 AGM takes place on Monday 12th May and this is an excellent time for members to find out hot the club has been doing financially as well as hear the Committee's views on future developments. It is also a very good time for members to air their views and to make suggestions for improvements to the Club: we would like to see and hear from you.

AIR CONDITIONING & SMOKE FILTRATION

The Electronic Air Climate Control units and powerful Smoke Filters have now been in place within the Binfield Club since Autumn 2002.

We can all now look forward to enjoying the Club during those long hot summer days even when we have friends around us who continue to indulge in smoking.

STEWARDSHIP LICENCE

The Club now operates easing a Stewardship Franchise. This has introduced both significant financial and management responsibility improvements.

A NEW FUNCTION ROOM

The Committee planned to fully refurbish the Function Room during 2002 but events and problems overtook us forcing other concerns such as flat roof leaks and internal Climate Control to be given precedence. Quotes have been requested for the Function Room work but these have ranged from £10K for minor work up to £30K for a more substantial refurbishment. The Committee has a lot to consider and is still to decide upon which of the different plans offers the most suitable solution in terms of best value for money and a proper long-term solution.

NEW MAIN FLAT ROOF A WINNER! NOW FOR THE OTHERS!!

The main flat roof covers a substantial area which is not readily viewable from outside the Club and late in 2002 the Committee decided to replace this with a new 'Polyroof" system which cost around £10K and has been a real success in preventing the water problems of prior winters.

This enables us to look forward with encouragement to eliminating the remaining flat roof problems such as over the snooker room and the bottle shed which have suffered from leaks in stormy weather and resisted several previous repairs.

With the proven reliable flat roof system available a "Terrace Roof Garden" are over the snooker room is now being considered to take advantage of a pleasant area which will allow members to enjoy the sun outside whilst still technically inside the Club!

Entertainment in the Binfield Club

Clive, Kelly, Elaine Bowes, John Owen and Keith Palmer have all helped towards bringing lots of different events and activities to the Binfield Club so fare in 2003. At this point we would like to thank all of those members and guests who have supported the Club throughout and we look forward to seeing all of you and others enjoy 2003 which will see more to come.

  • Race Nites - normally good fun and well supported.
  • Saint George's Day - this year will see the event more as a Big Screen TV sporting occasion because of the European Cup.
  • Throughout the year there will be solo artists and events for your Friday entertainment.
  • Theme Nites - these events usually are great fun with members getting into the spirit of things.
  • Saturday Night Entertainment all year round with excellent groups and the opportunity to dance to the music.
  • Competitions for best all-rounder, Skittles and Pool, with a special prize for the winner.
  • Talent Nite later in 2003; this was a real success last time round.
  • Regular Members Raffles and Draws, with prices, meat and money for the winners.
  • We hope to see other new and interesting activities develop throughout 2003.
  • Any ideas for future entertainment?? Please get in touch with Elaine from E.B. Promotions at the Binfield Club.

That's just magic!!

Club Holiday 2003 - Southern Spain

Mid April saw a large party of Club regulars depart for the joys of sunny Spain at a very reasonable cost. It was Portugal in 2001 which all 27 members enjoyed and all came back with good sun tans and we hope that they will have had another great time on this 2003 trip.

If you are interested in a trip during 2004, please let the Club know and you will be advised of the details of the next holiday. A list will go up later in 2003 for those interested members to leave their details.

Volunteers

We have said it before and we really do mean it. The Club needs volunteers to keep our Club successful. Volunteers who can help out with entertainment, various events, and raffles are much appreciated. Can you spare some time? Please contact either John Owen, Elaine Bowes or a Committee Member.

Help with the Sunday Morning Count is a big help to the Club and isn't all boring counting, you get a cup of tea (if you are luck) and a bit of banter with the other members: especially if the count double-checker finds an error!

New Members

Not many Clubs can boast of growth 4 years in a row! Our Club continues to receive on average 20 new membership applications each month and we want this to continue. Of course, there are several reasons for this, as any member knows; our facilities are great, we offer more than most Public Houses at much cheaper prices and we have nice members. So if you are not yet a member why not come and see for yourself?

Some Achievements During 2002/3

  • Introduced and implemented a Franchise/Licence system for both Stewardship and Food.
  • Implemented Climate Control Units, Mobile Air Coolers, New flat roof, New Cellar Coolers and Cellar Racking.
  • Redecorated Kitchen, purchased Kitchen Units, Commercial Fridge, Freezer and Microwave Oven.
  • Achieved substantial Rates Rebate and ongoing reduction in Club Ratable Value.
  • Changed principal Beer Supplier to Coors, reduced Beer Prices in 2002 and held them steady in 2003.
  • Introduced greater competition between providers to secure improved deals on beers and other drinks.
  • Introduced a broad choice of real ale and lager at reasonable prices.
  • Expanded entertainment across the board.
  • A somewhat fuller list of the achievements can be found on the list which accompanies this newsletter.
