Uncle Joe was everybody's friend in the middle of the C20th*. First Hitler's, then Churchill and Roosevelt's. Though no one really felt happy being bounced up and down on his knee. Number three in our list of great dictators, after Herr Schicklegruber and (a long long life to) Chairman Mao.
*Joseph Stalin was Time Magazine's 'Man of the Year' in 1939 and in 1942.

Stalin, hero of the Russian proleteriat, is now up, contentedly puffing on his pipe. The surrounding commissars have been airbrushed out.
