The Headmaster You're right, 'leper' is a politically incorrect term. We should now use the more tortuous "people affected by leprosy", or "people living with Hansen's disease". I visited a leper colony on Crete not so long ago, or rather on a small island a safe distance from Crete, don't want them flaking on us do we? It was however unoccupied. You probably know that armadillos can get leprosy, but did you know that up until the 1950s staff at Japanese government run leper colonies executed many of the lepers' children? Neither did I. I think to illustrate 'Leper' we could have the biblical image of a leper clad in rags, like Ben Hur's mum and sister, holding out a stump for alms. The Headmaster Hmmm - alphabet charts traditionally use objects rather than concepts. I felt uneasy enough suggesting Yellow for 'Y' (though that could be 'Y' for Yellow horde). The Eager Young Lad Really? I've seen 'Love' in the books of my youth. Why, it even appears in an alphabet book in the recent film 'Unleashed', featuring the excellent acting talents of Mr. Jet Li. Lunokhod or LunohodKostik Soviet moon self-propelled robot vehicle. There were two of them Luno(k)hod 1 and Luno(k)hod 2. As for me the second one is more handsome with its square viewing ports. The Headmaster I remember them fondly too, though I can't imagine how they fit into a 'politically incorrect alphabet'. By the 'square viewing ports' you'll mean the lens protectors for the externally mounted cameras. It's true, they are quite stylish, in a "Michael Caine's specs on an 8 wheeled crab" sort of way.
