Hanging

The School Bully

The death penalty is no longer seen as an acceptable way of dealing with serious crime, though whether this was the case in the 50s (or indeed if they used hanging rather than injections or whatever) is another debate, I guess.

The Headmaster

'Scaffold' and 'Guillotine' made it to the board if not the front page last year, and 'Noose' and 'Executioner' are already completed.

Hanging was the normal method of execution in the UK in the C20th, up until the last pair to be dispatched in 1964 (not Hanratty, he was a couple of years earlier). The condemned person's neck was snapped if it was done correctly, if the drop was insufficient the pressure of the noose still cut off the blood flow so conciousness was lost within seconds.

In wartime Britain people were also shot - I visited a company in Clapham a couple of years ago, there in the courtyard wall were bullet holes where German spies who wouldn't cooperate had been executed.

France favoured the guillotine which was also quick (again, just a few seconds of conciousness at most) - until they stopped judicial killings in 1977.

In Saudi Arabia decapitation by sword is still used, and in the USA they do it the American way. The electric chair can be quite barbaric, the prisoner is cooked from inside and does not necessarily immediately lose conciousness. Its replacement by lethal injection is also under scrutiny, with the doctor who first came up with the approved drug cocktail now saying that he got it wrong. And then they have firing squads, gas chambers and hanging still optional in some states, though not now used since the 1990s.

Of course no execution is politically correct.

Helmet

The Headmaster

UnPC if illustrated by a military model, there's a choice of styles to pick from.

Also makes people snigger as it's a synonym for the bell-end (to use the correct medical term).

Hemp

me

H is for hemp

The Headmaster

It is, though the illustration for hemp would be, what, a rope? Who would then get it? People might think 'Hawser, what's unPC about that?' Anything more obviously druggy could also be 'Hashish'.

See leaf.

Hippo

I recently learnt that they are the animal responsible for killing the most tourists on safari. They deserve a picture for that, but I think they are still acceptable.

Also, many kids can't pronounce it, nevermind spell it.

Ho Chi-Minh

DrWombatMD

Random, but it goes along with Hitler, sorta.

Hobbit

DrWombatMD

hobbitsesss!

The Headmaster

If you're suggesting I draw a Hobbit that just because you're a Tolkien fan, then please remember I'm not just here to draw pictures of your favourite characters or objects. Though I am very tempted to do Lunokhod for Kostik (just as I did Dalek for me and UFO for Grampy).

If however there is a good reason why 'Hobbit' should find its way into the Politically Incorrect Alphabet (read the title again), please, pray, what is it?

Hobo

See 'Tramp'.

Hoodie

As seen on Crimewatch and banned from Bluewater Shopping Complex.

Quote: "We're very concerned that some of our guests don't feel at all comfortable in what really is a family environment" Bluewater property manager Helen Smith.

Really makes the inclusion no contest.

Next question (assuming that it can be seen): Skin colour? I suggest that although there is no discrimination in who wears Hoodies that a black only hoodie would send the appropriately inappropriate stereotyping message that black gangs of criminal youths etc etc

I notice that you haven't got the horn

The Headmaster
Posted on: 7 July 2006, 6:27pm

You looked?

Anyway, I have the horn but it's only a little one, as yet (see the sea lion). I'd also considered this (but you can take the credit) - a thick, sturdy horn with a big bulb, pointing to the heavens.

much as I'd envisaged it.

Hunchback

hunchback or humpback?

The Headmaster
Posted on: 3 May 2006, 1:36pm

'Hunchback' is a definite possibility: in old fairy tales the man or woman with a hump was a frequent foil to the handsome prince or princess (or Esmerelda in the Victor Hugo story).
