Innocuous perhaps but, coupled with Girl, the opportunity for some gender stereotyping. So, for the Boy, a Bat and Ball. Not only 'masculine' - active and outgoing - but alliterative and symbolic too. See also Girl.

Our little boy is up, with his eye on the ball (looks like a bouncer to me), bat raised, ready to knock it to the boundary. It's cricket, and on this game was an empire founded. This proud standard bearer of aryan youth is best viewed with 'Girl'.
