
Lighting
& heating.
There are two types of lighting and heating available either separates
or a combination bulb
both need to be on for 12 hours a day minimum.
Separates:
UVB10 tube which needs to be replaced every 6 months and a
distance of 8 to 12"
from your substrate, and a standard 100watt spot light bulb for
the heat, you need a
temperature of 32c
directly under the spot light.
Combination: This is what I use 160watt megaray bulb it
needs to be about 18" from the substrate
and needs replacing every 2 years. Please note these bulbs get
very hot and you must make sure the temperature
is correct underneath them before a tortoise is introduced.
If you do not use the correct lighting, heating and feeding your
tortoises shell could result in pyrimiding.
Take a look at the photo below, the tortoise on the left should look
like the tortoise on the right.
Both tortoises are the same age and the same species.
