Vogon Indoor Model Sessions - VIMS request for flying invite

The main hall is a four court+ heated hall and is booked between 17:30 and 20:30. we tried four hour sessions, but I think the core pilots only need three hours before they are either bored, tired or have smashed up all of their models.

The booked dates have been chosen to avoid the Nottingham University indoor flying, and future nights will still avoid Nottingham, and the Alfreton meetings.

I know that the RR leisure centre in Derby have raised its prices and reduced the flying time slots, so Hucknall may become an alternative to their Friday morning sessions. There are many other local indoor clubs...... some that favour Helis, some that prefer free flight, and some that are for the 'Shock flier' pilots.

The majority of folk I have spoken to recently want to form a gathering of pilots that fly the lighter and more delicate R/C models. These include the type of model home built from 1mm Depron or similar, and use true micro radio gear. These typically weigh up to a max of 40 grams. Becoming popular now are the Kyosho Minium models, of which there are now two variants. These are by no means of the 'toy category', but do near enough fly out of the box . These use the 2.4 gig frequency and so multiple models can be flown together safely. They are rudder, elevator and throttle controlled, and capable of loops and stall turns. These models weigh just 22 grams all up.

If you are thinking of coming along, please add your details at the side of these subjects below: If you intend bringing different 'Types' of model, please tell me about all types. eg a 'slowflier' 35 meg Ch 77 and an 'Ultralite' 2.4 gig. This is so that I can pre plan and prepare for time slots if needed, and decide if flying time zones are required.

Your name: Contact details:
Are you coming along as a spectator or to fly?
Model one - Ultralite, Slowflier, Minium, Vapor
Model one - Weights and wing span? - eg 12" span, 35 grams
Model one - Frequency / channels will you use? - eg 35 meg Ch77
Model two - Ultralite, Slowflier, Minium, Vapor
Model two - Weights and wing span? - eg 12" span, 35 grams
Model two - Frequency / channels will you use? - eg 35 meg Ch77
Slow Flier -  a larger model than the Ultralite category, but fly so slowly that little air disruption is caused
Helicopters are not generally allowed, but test flights can be carried out by prior arrangement
Shock fliers are not permitted. A Shockie is a model that when flying, will cause disruption to the air, affecting the flights of lighter models

Size and weight limits would be in line with all other recognised indoor sessions.  At previous events, we usually get around three to six models in the air at once, and 'mid airs' are not un heard of. One good thing with indoor models is that they only weigh about 20 to 30 grams....... and after a mid air the two models flutter to the ground, or recover even before that and fly off again. We expect 35mhz radio controlled models, as well as the excellent 2.4 gig Kyosho Minium kits.

The 27 meg indoor 'X twin' type models are often taken to indoor events, but as there are only three available channels, these will have to be flown 'off the peg' to avoid interference, as will the 35 meg planes. There are numerous infra-red helicopters that have been received as presents this Xmas........... and these need somewhere large to fly, to reach there full potential. This range of cheap EPP indoor models are popular and are welcome on this first event whilst we feel our feet, but if we feel that any model is either too large, too fast or just not the type of model that we want at these events, restricted use will be allowed on this first session, but maybe disallowed at future 'fly-ins'. There are a few models like the GWS Tiger Moth, that are excellent slow indoor models, and if there is a need, maybe separate time slots for that larger 'Slowfly' type of model could be set aside.

Flying cost will be £10 per adult pilot and £5 for a junior per session, or part there of. A junior flying with an adult pilot would be FOC.  An adult pilot ends up paying the equivalent to just £3.30 an hour............ compare that to a night at the pub, watching the TV.

I have spoken to Don Hall at Millennium Models in Hucknall, and he says that he can get the Kyosho range, including the Minium 2.4gig indoor models. They are not a stock item, and so would need about a week to get one for you. Cost is in line with other shops in the model magazines........... only you wont need to pay the postage if you buy from Don. Please support your local model shop in Hucknall.

If you know anyone else that you think may want to come along, please get them to email me, so that I can plan for the event, and have enough tables into the room.
