SIFU VICTOR S. EVELYN
BACKGROUND "When it comes to choosing the best martial art, choose the one that allows you to perform it without thought and which give you the most effective results all of the time." Sifu Victor S. Evelyn ('BLAPPS') I grew up in a bad neighbourhood, in a bad part of town, at a bad time, with a lot of bad things going on around me. I was destined to become something, either very good or very bad. I had a try at bad and like anything I tried in life, I gave it 100%. So close was I to becoming dead or put in jail for hurting someone that I was minutes from it before I realised I had gone too far. Fresh from a court case meant to put me in prison, my father sat me down and did what he did to get my mind straight, he threatened to kill me! I believed him. I passed my school exams and started on the road to becoming what I am today. I was not cured straight away though. The martial arts I had been learning all my life up to that point had only given me the tools to be able to fight and to give what I want to give to those who were just in the wrong place at the time to receive it. I needed guidance and I needed it quick. I looked for a martial art that could give me more tools to fight. I found a Wing Chun school trying to be like all the rest of the Bruce Lee lovers and quickly found what I needed...a martial art that scared the living crap out of me! I started in security at 18 years old, like most of my friends, taking money on the door of parties and at rave events. Those days we were called 'Bouncers' for all the right reasons. Over the 20 plus years I have been involved in all types of security, from static guarding to Close Protection. I have seen a lot of violence. I have estimated that I have personally been involved in over 400 fights, not including the one punch knockouts and slight wrestling matches. I have never lost one. I learned how to lose from fighting in tournaments, where points decided my fate. Or by sparring my brothers, who also had lives in the martial arts. From fighting in tournaments from a young age, I learned much from losing. When I became the British (twice) European and World Championship Medallist in Full Contact Kung Fu, I learned I should teach others. After 7 years of learning Wing Chun, I was told I could teach it. I started in 1991 and have been teaching ever since. The more I learned the more I understood how dangerous I was getting. As I taught I was getting hooked into my students everyday life and soon became their life mentor. Having children myself at this time, I wanted them to grow up as safely as possible and so did what I could in the community I lived in to make sure there would be something they could use later, if I wasn't around and that everyone could use if they needed to be prepared in their lives. A few proud moments
Today the community initiatives the voluntary group I started (CDMA) help hundreds to become better today than they were yesterday. Sifu Victor S. Evelyn
