There was no Tour de France during the war; nonetheless, a series of races was organised amongst the chaos of war-ravaged France. The most significant was Monaco - Paris in 1946. It was organised by Le Parisien Libéré, which, along with l'Equipe, took over the organisation of the Tour de France, and was widely seen as a logistical try out before the Tour-proper was resumed in 1947.
