Cycling

A picture of me in Normandy
For all those who wanted to see the back of me...

As readers of my introductory page no-doubt know, I spent over a year living in the concrete wasteland that is known as Los Angeles. One of the banes of that urban monstrosity that is so euphemistically called "The City of Angels", but which is really more like Birmingham with palm trees, is that cycling is a nightmare. Which might explain why I wrote a web page about cycling rather than actually riding my bike. Anyway, for eight years I was a member (and sometime captain) of Oxford University Cycling Club and even held a few of their club records.

There are loads of cycling related sources on the web and I don't intend to list all of them. However, for lots of in-depth cycle-touring information, you could do worse than visit the Trento Bike Pages. The Cyclists' Touring Club have also entered the modern age.

Cycling, of course, has its own heirachy of newsgroups; before posting a question which might well have been recently answered, it is worth reading the FAQ , a small part of which I wrote.

I've been on a fair few cycle tours in my time; you can read a description of one of them here, which went to Brittany and Normandy.

For those of you interested in the historical side of the sport, I have a list of the winners of all the big bike races, arranged by rider. It can be found at my Palmarès page, along with sundry other historical information.
