30th May 2008
The Newsletter and Diary
for June 2008 are uploaded. I have also added a page describing
my treatment following the discovery of lymphatic cancer, in the hope
that this may firstly keep friends up to date, and help other people
who may be going through the same process. This may be accessed
at Alan's Health Log.
30th April 2008
The NewsLetter and Diary
for May are up-loaded - a little earlier than usual thanks to my
recovery time from an appendicectomy!
4th April 2008
The NewsLetter and Diary
for April are now on-line.
16th March 2008
At last - the NewsLetter and Diary for March are up-loaded. I'm
sorry these pages are rather late, but the concert by Epsom Choral
Society took up the time when I would normally have done it. I
hope you haven't missed any crucial dates.
8th February 2008
Home page updated with news about the St Martin's Pre-School
Play-Group which has today moved into Unity Hall. We give them a
warm welcome and hope that their stay with us will be long and happy.
3rd February 2008
Thanks for the month off, everybody! And here is the first
offering for 2008, the February NewsLetter and February Diary
A
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
to all my readers.
7th December 2007
The NewsLetter and Diary
for this month and January 2008 are now available for view.
These are two-month issues, but there may be a NewsLetter Extra
published if the need arises.
3rd November 2007
The NewsLetter and Diary
for November are available. There is a new page, Organist
Advert, accessed from the Home page, with details of the vacancy
for an organist. We hope that this bears fruit.
11th October 2007
Was the last NewsLetter really that long ago!? Never mind, here
we are with your latest offerings - the NewsLetter
and Diary for October. Feast your
eyes.....!
4th August 2007
The NewsLetter and Diary
for the months of August and September are uploaded for your
viewing. Enjoy your holidays!
5th July 2007
The July NewsLetter and Diary
are up-loaded for your perusal. You will notice, firstly,
that the Hit Counter has reset itself to zero - again! - and secondly,
that I have done nothing about setting up a new Web page. There
doesn't seem to be the time available!
8th June 2007
I have actually managed to make a start on updating some of the
general information pages which, having been neglected for some years,
are rather out of date. Pages corrected so far deal with 'Worship',
and Church Groups and Youth
Groups. Watch this space - not too closely! - for further
updates pages.
7th June 2007
During up-loading of the May NewsLetter, I ran out of web-space!
I had to delete some early photographs to make room for the current
magazine. Since then I have deleted everything in 2002 and
earlier. If anybody wants details of this deleted material, I
have got it saved, so please contact me. So now there is room
for the June NewsLetter, complete with
all its photographs, and Diary to be made
available for you.
9th May, 2007
The latest NewsLetter and Diary
for May are available for you to peruse. A bit late, I'm
sorry, but after such a terrific 70th Birthday Party weekend, who can
blame me!
3rd April 2007
The latest NewsLetter and Diary, for April, are uploaded today,
with details of events around Easter. And don't miss our Supper
and Concert on 21st April in aid of Christian Aid.
1st March 2007
This is getting a bit repetitious isn't it! Anyway, once again, the new month's NewsLetter
and Diary are up-loaded. All the
events for the last and next month are reported, or advertised.
Note that Phemie is doing another breakfast in aid of Christian
Aid on 25th March - Yippee! Do you realise that I've been
doing this website for six and a half years!
6th February
Once again, the new month's NewsLetter
and Diary are up-loaded. The
NewsLetter contains photographs of the damage done by the recent storm
to the church roof. I have also revised the 'Premises'
page and 'Local Churches', both of
which contained out-of-date information and errors. I hope to
revise further pages as the opportunity arises.
5th January 2007
A Happy New Year to all our readers. I hope you enjoy the NewsLetter
and Diary for January, now on line.
5th December
The Christmas issue of NewsLetter and Diary
are on line. See here for all details of our Christmas
celebrations
4th November
The NewsLetter and Diary
for November are available now
5th October
Here are the NewsLetter and Diary
for October - rather late, I'm afraid, as I had a couple of days away
last week. I hope you weren't relying on the website for Harvest
Service details - it was last Sunday!
1st September
The September Newsletter and Diary
are now on line
5th August, 2006
Lot of photographs in the August NewsLetter,
but, with the holiday season, not so much in the August Diary;
both are here for your perusal.
15th July, 2006
We have a new date for our 'Pump Aid' Breakfast which is shown on
the Home Page. The NewsLetter
and Diary are also up-dated.
11th July, 2006
Sorry, everybody, but we've had to postpone the Breakfast arranged for
16th July. Watch out for the new date! I've also realised
that the link for the July NewsLetter was wrong on the Home page - you
can read it here, now!
29th June, 2006
The NewsLetter and Diary
for July 2006 are ready for your inspection.
1st June, 2006
Once again, the monthly NewsLetter and
Diary on line and awaiting your pleasure.
10th May, 2006
Whoops! A couple of errors in the Diary for
May have been corrected: the time for the Evening Church
Fellowship should have been 20:00, not 19:30 (too late for 8th May,
I'm sorry!) and the Church Meeting is on 24th May, not 17th - and I'm
in time to announce this one!
7th May 2006
Your monthly fix of NewsLetter and
Diary for the month of May are available
for your perusal. Enjoy!
8th April 2006
The April NewsLetter and Diary
are
uploaded. Included in the NewsLetter are details of the Easter Monday
Walk around Banstead and Walton Heaths. 19th March 2006
My apologies! I have just noticed that I had not updated the
links to the March NewsLetter and Diary on the Home Page. This
has now been corrected. (Thinks: why did nobody tell me. . . ?)
3rd March 2006
A 32-page NewsLetter, etc., is uploaded. See it now at March
NewsLetter, and also see the March Diary.
I have noticed that several little-used pages are out-of-date; I will
be updating these when time permits; in the meantime, please accept my
apologies.
6th February2006
After a NewsLetter delayed to include tributes to Del Lewis, a
website that's updated the next day! The NewsLetter
and the Diary for February are on
line. Please note that the Home Page will be updated with
details of services for Joan Denman as soon as they are
available.
1st January 2006
The first NewsLetter and Diary
for 2006 is uploaded today. Isn't it early - the same day as the
NewsLetter was issued in hard copy! Well, we're going to upgrade
my computer tomorrow and re-build Windows, etc., and I don't want to
keep you waiting in case it all goes pear-shaped!
A
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
to all my readers.
29th November 2005
The Newsletter and Diary
for December are on-line - and it's still November! I've been
doing the new pages while standing by while the new windows are being
put in at church. There should be a new picture on the Home
page; what do you think?
5th November 2005
The Diary and NewsLetter
for November are now on-line. Read about our successful Harvest
Celebrations, as we raised money for 3½ Elephant Pumps.
29th September 2005
Here we are, back on schedule with the Diary
and NewsLetter for October. If
you read this in time, please join us for Harvest Festival on Sunday,
2nd October at 10:30.
9th September 2005
As promised, the Newsletter and Diary
for September, and only a month to the day after last month's on-line
edition.
9th August 2005
The Newsletter and Diary
for August are loaded for your delight. May I, at this time,
give you advance notice that even though the September issue of
the Newsletter is to be published on 21st August, due to
holidays, the on-line version will not be done until the first or
second week in September - in fact, about a month's time from
now. I'm off with an old school friend cycle-camping round some
more canals in France, sampling the viticultural and gastronomic
delights of the Bourgogne area. I'll see you when I get back!
7th July 2005
Here are the Newsletter
and Diary for July. Click and enjoy.
2nd June 2005
Here we are, a week earlier than usual, due to the paper version of
the NewsLetter now being published on the last Sunday of the preceding
month. Click for the NewsLetter
and Diary for June.
13th May 2005
My apologies for the delay. I was busy last week preparing,
rehearsing and performing an entertainment for the 60th anniversary of
VE Day at the local Royal Alfred Seafarers' Home, which had a
deadline! Anyway here are the Newsletter
and Diary for May. Enjoy!
You will note that the publication date for the Newsletter is being
moved a week earlier, to the last Sunday of the previous month.
This may (!) mean that the Newsletter and Diary can be put on line a
week earlier, too (but don't count on it!)
10th April 2005
Here at last is the Diary for April 2005
- at 23:57! I'm sorry if you've been waiting for it - I had to
sort out my son's van this afternoon, and then I cut the grass, and
then - a bit of indulgence! - I watched "Air Force 1".
9th April 2005
The Newsletter for April is
online. I'm sorry - you'll have to wait until tomorrow for the
Diary: organising the St George's Day Bash has taken too much
time. Details for this are in the Newsletter; will I see you
there?
13th March 2005
The March NewsLetter and Diary
are on line; see the NewsLetter for
news of our Easter Monday Walk round Ashtead Common.
11th February 2005
We're well into 2005 now, with Shrove Tuesday already behind
us! Get your Diary for February, and
the February Newsletter, with many
photographs.
7th January 2005
Happy New Year, everybody
The new NewsLetter and Diary,
the first for 2005, is available. To keep the site up-to-date,
you will notice that some photographs taken early in December,
although printed in the January copy of the NewsLetter, were included
in the online NewsLetter in the December
issue.
18th December 2004
December NewsLetter and Diary
are prepared for your delectation. As it's rather late, I have
been able to incorporate in the NewsLetter some photographs of events
which took place after the NewsLetter publication date of 5th
December. These show the Kindergarten 'Christmas Celebration'
and the Blood Donating Session in Unity Hall. And, once again:
A
Merry Christmas
to all my readers.
23rd November 2004
The November NewsLetter and Diary
are at last available - even later than last month. My apologies
- blame it on my duties in connection with Remembrance Day and
Remembrance Sunday, among other things. Take a look at the
Special Events on the Home Page and the NewsLetter - you may find
something there to interest you. May I recommend the Lunchtime
Carol Concert on 9th December at 12:30, tailored for people
working in Epsom to do something new in their lunch break.
16th October 2004
The October NewsLetter and Diary
are available - rather late, I'm sorry, as I've been busy with the
aftermath of the sponsored Cycle Ride. You can read about the
trip in the October NewsLetter.
18th August 2004
The NewsLetter and Diary
for August and September are available. The next Newsletter will
be issued on 3rd October after a 6-week gap, and be on line soon
afterwards. Look out for the story of our Cycle Ride in France!
15th July 2004
I'm sorry they have been a bit delayed, but here at last are the pages
for the July NewsLetter and Diary.
Also may I point out the page about my Sponsored
Cycle Ride to raise funds for the Princess Alice
Hospice? Thank you.
6th June 2004
Once again, the NewsLetter and Diary
for the month of June are up-loaded for you. Also revised is the
Contacts page, which still had details of
the Pastoral Vacancy. This now contains details of our Minister
including an email address via this web-site.
16th May 2004
While demonstrating this website during my visit to the Christian
Resources Exhibition and Sandown Park on Thursday last, I found out
that I had not revised the page on our Minister since she joined us at
the end of January this year. I have now remedied that
situation. Follow the link to Church
and then follow the bookmark to 'The Minister'.
5th May 2004
The NewsLetter and Diary
for May - out in good time for publicity for Christian Aid Week and
our own - our very own - Spring Event (details are in the NewsLetter)
22nd April 2004
I've installed a hit counter on the Index Page. It will be
interesting to see how many hits we get. Unfortunately, it also
includes the times that I go on, too - even during editing the page,
it appears. Anyway, let's see how it goes. This is supplied
free by http://counter.bloke.com/
and installed easily - my thanks to him!
11th April 2004
The Newsletter and Diary
for April is available for your attention. Are you coming on our
Easter Monday Walk? Read about it in the NewsLetter.
13th March 2004
The Newsletter and Diary
for March is available for your attention. Read all our latest
news!
21st February 2004
The February Newsletter and Diary
on up at last! Sorry about the delay - I've been working on the
"Welcome Pack", a set of information leaflets about the
church to hand out to newcomers as an handy introduction. These
are to be ready for the Anchor Boys Recruitment Party on 1st March!
29th January 2004
The sad news of Ivy Trueman's death is reported on the Home page, with
details of the funeral arrangements and donations. I'll try and
have more in the February NewsLetter, due for publication on 8th
February.
8th January 2004
A Happy and Successful New Year
to you all
The first Newsletter
and Diary for the New Year have been loaded
for your information. Please enjoy them!
19th December 2003
The Newsletter and Diary
for December are uploaded at last. I apologize for the delay
- I blame all the concerts I'm and the number of programmes that I
design! Anyway, once again:
A
Merry Christmas
to all my readers.
18th November 2003
Having just received a scam email (what else is new!) I have
realised that the sender has used an epsomurc.org.uk address - so
there is a warning on the Home page that this is NOTHING to do with me
or this web-site! Why do people do this?
13th November 2003
NewsLetter and Diary
for November is now on line
24th October 2003
A new page to welcome the
Revd. Pat Hall is on the site, accessed from the Home
Page.
15th October 2003
I publish on the Home Page the Headline
News that Revd. Pat Hall will be joining us in the New Year.
9th October 2003
Once again , your monthly diet of Newsletter
and Diary for October. There are lots
of pictures of the Harvest Lunch and Festival this time.
12th September 2003
The Newsletter and Diary
for September are on-line. Please make a note of the special
arrangements concerning the pastoral vacancy.
9th August 2003
It has been quite nice these last few days to find an excuse to
sit indoors during this recent hot weather, and put the NewsLetter
and Diary for August on line! And happy
and relAXING HOLIDAYS TO ALL MY READERS!
16th July 2003
And now the NewsLetter and Diary
for July are on line. Also we include Nick Aston-Smith's tribute
to Raymond in the Obituary page: read and
remember, and say a prayer for Gwyneth and the family.
13th June 2003
The Diary and NewsLetter
for the Month of June are now available. I apologize for the
lateness, but arrangements for the Service of Thanksgiving for the
life of Beatrice Taylor delayed me.
And now we have the sad news about Raymond's death. Please see
the Newsletter for details, and watch
out for further information as it becomes available.
9th May, 2003
The Diary and NewsLetter for the month
of May is put on line. Conact details for our Interim Moderator,
the Rev. Ceri Lewis, are added to the Contacts Page, at his request.
12th April, 2003
NewsLetter and Diary
for this month - apologies for the delay in getting them done!
11th April, 2003
We are advertising for a new organist to join our rota, so this
notice on the Home page repeats the recent notice in the East Surrey
Organists Newsletter. I have also emptied the Obituary page, out
of deference to the families, as it is now some time since the three
ladies passed on.
3rd March, 2003
The NewsLetter and Diary
for the month of March are added. See the NewsLetter for
details of progress with the Pastoral Vacancy.
8th February 2003
The February NewsLetter and Diary
are added for your convenience. There is a notice on the Home
Page advertising the visit by Rev. Ceri Lewis, our Interim
Moderator (I've asked him for a photograph to add), and - a new
innovation - a list of the forthcoming Christian festivals up until
Easter.
10th January 2003
This month
sees the latest Newsletter and Diary
added, and with the departure of our minister for pastures new, his
picture departs from the Home Page, and there
is no Minister's Letter. I have also deleted his contact details
throughout the site and replaced them mostly with details for the
Secretary, Sheila (sorry about that, Sheila!) as I wouldn't want
anyone to go unanswered through trying to contact an empty
address! If you still find a reference to John or the
'Minister', please let
me know.
10th December 2002
The December Newsletter
and Diary are now loaded up; I also report
the death of Ethel Sprinks - details of her life are added to the Obituaries
page. And finally . . . A
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Successful New Year
to all my readers.
7th November 2002
The November Newsletter, Minister's
Letter and Diary have been added to the
site, and the Contacts page has been
revised to include the names of the leaders of The Friday Zone,
our new Youth Club.
27th October 2002
This site has been submitted to the ntlworld web page - and I've just
found how to put their logo up on my home page!
17th October 2002
The NewsLetter for October is
available at last. It's later than usual, as "Entertainment
URC!" took priority - sorry - Editor's privilege! Also the Diary
for October and the Minister's Letter
are published.
13th October, 2002
A very large page of photographs from "Entertainment
URC!" 2002 is uploaded - I hope that it's not too big for the
10M web space available. If you can't download, it means I'm
reducing the size of the picture files! I have also put a new
picture of the church on the home page - this shows the new name signs
installed on the church.
8th September, 2002
Revised date (25th) of Church Meeting added to the Diary
for September
4th September, 2002
The Newsletter and Diary
for September are added - and this site is One Year
Old!
4th August, 2002
New pages are added for Newsletter
and Diary for August.
23rd July 2002
Notice is given on the Home page and the Diary of the re-scheduled Church Meeting,
now at 20:00 on 31st July, 2002.
11th July 2002
Today sees the publication of the Newsletter
for July - this month it was 6 x A4 pages folded to A5 so it grows
and grows! Next month's issue will probably be smaller as we
approach the holiday months.
As in recent months, the Minister's monthly Letter
and the July Diary have been put on
their own pages; and the Obituary page, now
updated with tributes and people's memories is also directly
accessible from this page and the Home Page.
14th June 2002
With the recent loss of two of our members, Ruth Moyle and Win
Cary, I have found it necessary to introduce a new page, Obituaries.
Currently, only pictures of these two ladies appear - text will be
added as soon as possible.
6th June 2002
The Newsletter
for June is no on the web-site, and is the Diary
for June and the Minister's Letter.
Please note the details in the Newsletter concerning Family Day, on
16th June, and Jubilee Party, rescheduled for 13th July.
6th May 2002
This month's Newsletter is published
today. May I commend, out of an interesting magazine, the
special articles about the Organ Refurbishment and the National Pipe
Organ Register. Also, while maintaining links to them from the
Newsletter, I have separated the Monthly
Diary and the Minister's Letter to
their own pages from the body of the Newsletter page for ease of
access.
12th April 2002
There was an error on the Monthly Diary in the April
Newsletter when it was loaded up on 5th April, whereby dates,
times and events did not line up correctly. This has now been
corrected, and I hope that readers were not too confused. Sorry!
5th April 2002
The Minister's Letter and the Newsletter
and Diary for April are now available. I would repeat what I
said in the Newsletter about the article by Tom Lockett about the
scope of the Finance and General Purposes Committee. This will
be appearing in the main F&GP page
under the Church Groups and Organisations page - when I can get around
to it! The Diary page was also rather
out-of-date concerning Future Events - which had all passed; this has
been revised.
7th March 2002
The Minister's Letter and the Newsletter
and Diary for March are now available. Please note the
details of the Good Friday, Procession of Witness in the
Newsletter. And may I draw you attention to the Barn Dance
on 23rd March. Our Badminton Club struggles
along with about 3 or 4 players. They meet on Tuesdays from
20:00 to 22:00. If you would like to join them, please email
me me for details.
20th February 2002
At last - and with apologies for the delay - our Minister's
Letter for February - and an invitation!
14th February 2002
The February Newsletter is published,
together with the Diary Dates up until 4th March. Included in
this are the minutes of the latest meeting of 'Churches Together in
Epsom' which was held recently in our Church.
22nd January 2002
We announce the unfortunate cancellation of our proposed 'Burns
Night', due to absence on business of the chief organiser - and I was
so looking forward to trying a set of pipes!
We also include for the first time the minutes of the Church
Life Committee, at which all church events are co-ordinated.
You can navigate there from here, or from the Home Page.
11th January 2002
Happy New Year! The latest edition of the Newsletter
for January is published. I have also included a page about
the New Year Party, with a few photographs. Unfortunately I was
rather too busy to take many photos - perhaps some more will be
available soon. Watch this space!
Also there is our Minister's Letter,
thought-provoking as always.
28th December 2001
Just a few updates this time - Christmas has overtaken me! But I
have removed the advertisements for Christmas events, and have
introduced advertisements on the Home Page for
our New Year Party and the next Barn Dance. Also
we have a new link for the Dovecote
Coffee Shop and Christian Book Shop, which may also be linked to
from our Local Churches page. So
I wish all my readers a very Happy and Peaceful New Year, and I'll see
you in 2002.
6th December 2001
This time I've added the December
Newsletter, which includes the Diary for the Month and into the
New Year. John Crocker and his wife have returned from Taiwan
and Bangkok; his letter, 'Travelling Home for
Christmas', is included. I have also changed email addresses into
web-based addresses; hopefully this will make things easier to update. You
will no doubt have seen the photographs on the Home
Page of the 'Shoebox Nativity' models made by the Brownies.
At their District Craft Competitions one got a Highly Commended and
another won 3rd Prize. Well done. I have now
started removing links to out-of-date and superseded pages. If
you still want to refer to them, links are generally included in this
page. Just scroll down until you find it. No pages have
yet been removed from the site. My new server does not
have a built-in hit counter, so this has been removed for the time
being. And finally . . . A
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Successful New Year
to all my readers.
28th November 2001
I've just spent an evening updating my email address on each page,
due to the imminent switch-off of Cable& Wireless ISP. I
hope somebody emails me to show it was worth the time! The next
job will be to load the pages onto the ntlworld webspace; but don't
worry, the address will still be www.epsomurc.org.uk
27th November 2001
I've now got a new email address, which is valanwood@ntlworld.com.
So far this has only been updated on a few pages; however, emails to
the old cwcom.net address will be forwarded for a further six months. I have taken this opportunity
to put a few important advertisements on the home page, for our Coffee
Morning on 1st December and our Barn Dance on 15th
December, and also to draw attention to the video of 'Out of the
Ashes', transferred from a standard-8 film, nearly 40 years old,
of the destruction by fire of our church and its rebuilding. Click
here for further details and to buy your own copy..
15th November 2001
Sorry - I've just found out that I had not updated the link on the
Home Page for the November
Newsletter. However, it was available from the entry in this
page for
7th November. Also, "Entertainment URC!" is
removed from 'Diary and Future Events' as it is now a past
event.
7th November 2001
The Newsletter and Diary for November
is now on line. As this changes monthly I have moved the link to
it to News Pages where it might be more noticeable. There
is now a Post Script to John Crocker's Episode 3
from Taiwan. It's good to know that Liz arrived out there safe
and sound, and we wish them a good holiday. I notice from the November
Diary that John is due to preach on the evening of 2nd December.
4th November 2001
John's third letter from Taiwan, describing
his visits to Yushan and other places.
I see we've had well over 200 visitors to the site - I wonder how many
are my visits? If you have any comments, why don't you send
me an e-mail?
27th October 2001
Addition of the page about our War
Memorial and some details of the men commemorated there.
23rd October 2001
Photographs of the second half of
"Entertainment URC!" make it on line at last. Link to it
from here or from the Home page, or switch between the two Parts.
20th October
The second episode of John Crocker's
'News from Taiwan', with news and pictures of the visit of the
President of Taiwan to Yushan Theological College is published.
The first episode of John's epistle can be reached from either end of
Episode 2, or from here.
18th October
At last - what you've all been waiting for! Photographs of
the first half of our Concert, "Entertainment
URC!", are published. Link to it from the Home page or
from here. The second half will be ready soon.
14th October 2001
Text and pictures added to the Church History
page, accessed from here or via the Church
page. My thanks to Win and Phyl Cary for their
contribution. Drawings by Keith
Charles, 'Epsom's nearly-famous artist', of three generations of
church buildings are included. My thanks to him for the generous
gift of the files for these. Please visit his site for many more
drawings of Epsom and its surroundings.
7th October 2001
The Newsletter for October is
published, also accessed via 'Newsletter and Diary for the Month' on
the Home page
5th October 2001
Javascript text added to the Home page to facilitate bookmarking of
the site using the correct domain name - thanks, Kit, for the text,
and my son, Michael, for getting it working! Also some minor
text revisions on various pages.
4th October 2001
Re-organised the links for the main pages so that they are only
accessible from the Home page. This should make it more logical,
and certainly easier to update.
The Link Table on the Home page has a section for News Pages; a new
link points to a new page, News from Taiwan,
with text and photos by our Minister.
28th September 2001
