MOTHERS' AND TODDLERS' GROUP

The Mothers' and Toddlers' Group caters for babies and children under school age with accompanying adults.

There is a wide selection of toys to encourage physical, mental and social development in a safe and happy environment.

The group meets on Tuesday afternoons from 13.30 to 15.15. during term time.  These times were organised to fit in with a group of mothers who wanted to attend with their young children and still be in time to meet with the older ones from schools.

Each toddler is given a drink and a biscuit, and the adults appreciate cups of tea.  There is a weekly charge of 50p per family.

At Christmas there is always a party with a visit from Father Christmas.  Every session concludes with action songs and rhymes - the 'Hokey-Cokey' is favourite for finishing!    [top]

AFTERNOON FELLOWSHIP

The Afternoon Fellowship meets from September to December and from March to May.  The meetings are held in the Longhurst Room on the fourth Thursday of the month starting at 14:30.

A very varied programme is arranged, both devotional and secular, please see the Newsletter for details.  All friends able to attend will be made very welcome.  [top]

EVENING CHURCH FELLOWSHIP

This is a lively group which meets on the first Monday evening of each month from October to July at 20.00 in the Longhurst Room.

They enjoy a varied programme including talks by different speakers from, last year, the Pearly King to a talk on 'Sightsavers'. At times our members will show slides and videos about their various holidays, and usually have a Beetle Drive - this may sound a little dull but usually ends up as a very hilarious evening.

They have two musical evenings, from light to classical music, with speakers explaining their choice.  A Craft Evening is also very enjoyable, with verdicts on the exhibits varying from 'Excellent' to 'Good Effort' and even 'Interesting'!

At the end of the session in July the members have an outdoor meeting where they proceed en masse for a country walk or to a local tourist attraction, for picnics or cream teas.

The nasty bit is that it costs 50p. for tea and biscuits while discussing the evening's entertainment, but £1 when the speaker is a visitor, as opposed to being home-grown.

Their leaders are certain that there is something for everyone's taste in their programme, and they would be pleased to increase their membership, which is open to everyone.  [top]

CHOIR

Our Choir gets together for special services, and especially for joint services with our friends at the Ewell URC.

DRAMA GROUP

This group has had a long history.  As mentioned elsewhere, the range of plays successfully presented is very wide, and also members take part in presentations during special services.

The Group has just restarted after lying fallow for a few years.  Come and see what the new group is planning.

JUNIOR CHURCH

Junior Church welcomes children of all age groups on a Sunday morning.  Following a time of Family Worship together in the Church, the children and their leaders go upstairs to the Longhurst Room for their own worship and activities.

The theme for each week's lesson is taken from 'Roots' and the three teachers take it in turn to prepare and present this, having discussed it at their monthly planning meeting.  For practical work the children are divided by age into two groups

At Christmas some form of Nativity scene is presented and the youngsters sometimes take part in other special services.    [top]

WOMEN'S CHURCH COUNCIL

The Women's Church Council assists with the pastoral and domestic needs of the Fellowship.  The members of the Council are elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Church.

The Council holds a Coffee Morning and Bring & Buy Sale between 10.30 and 12.00 on the second Tuesday of every month in the Longhurst Room.  The proceeds are given to a different charity each month.

All - not just women! - are welcomed at the Coffee Mornings - do come and meet with friends in a happy sociable atmosphere.  [top]

THE BADMINTON CLUB

The Badminton Club opened its doors for the first time in Unity Hall on 11th September.  The lines are newly painted, we have a new net and posts (to the latest regulations!).  We're even trying to understand the new scoring!  Initial trials indicate that the lower-than-ideal roof trusses may be the cause of more lets than usual, but we are looking forward to some energetic games. Join us on Tuesdays from 20:30 to 22:00.
