Saddle Lock.
Modification to lathe to make a better saddle lock.
The component parts. Note that aluminium pad on the jaw part. If this proves
to wear too much then
I'll replace it with brass. Note the shouldered bolt. It's a 7mm shank with
a 5mm thread on the end.
The longer threaded part is 4mm threaded. The threaded items were turned from
stainless steel. The
rest is mild steel.

The completed unit. The tommy bar on the operator is missing
at this point as the hole position can't be determined until the
unit is in place on the saddle.

The unit in place. As the operator screw is turned the jaw moves up or down
and clamps the saddle
by squeezing it on to the ways.

The tommy bar is now in place and the saddle back on the lathe.

This picture gives a good view of how the saddle lock works. The foot is pressed
against the underside of the ways pulling the saddle down on to the ways. The
saddle is now locked. Only a quarter of a turn is required to clamp the saddle
down.
