Quick change tool post.
The following pictures and
text describe a quick change tool post that is a modification of some tool posts
I have seen. The most convenient feature will be the actuating mechanism which
is built in and requires no extra tooling.
| This is
the start of the tool post. The carrier has had it's dovetails cut. The
tool post has its dovetails, mounting hole, pusher hole and cam holes drilled/
milled/ bored. |
 |
 |
This view shows the
tool post from the top. Not the counter bored hole, this is for a stainless
steel bushing. There are bushings top and bottom.
The tool post is large
enough to have a tool at each end.
|
| This picture
shows the top bushing and the cam pin in place. |
 |
 |
This picture shows
the basic, but not all, components. The bottom bush can be seen at the
bottom of the picture.
The cam pin is made
from stainless steel. It doesn't yet have an operator handle as this has
to be marked up once the unit is complete.
|
| This is
the pusher pad. Note the stainless steel insert. The bushings and this insert
have been reamed out. I reamed it to 6.40mm as I had one to hand. |
 |
 |
Almost
there. |
| Toolpost
in the unlocked position. |
 |
 |
In the
locked position. I may put a slight bend in that tommy bar. |
| QCTP and
some family members. Three of the carriers need their adjuster screw, all
need the adjuster lock. |
 |
With the toolholder at height
the clamp screws are quite close to the tommy bar so I'll bend the bar up a
bit and, if necessary, lower the clamp screws by machining some metal off to
make a step then use shorter screws.
The height adjuster is going
to be knurled but I've got to make my knurling tool before I can do that.
