My intention is, still, to get as many Le Cheminant watches in working order and maintain them that way. The last watch I sent to Le Cheminant Watches Ltd for repairs, was an 1822 Reverso (reversible) manual Le Cheminant watch, similar to the Jaeger Le Coultre Reverso, and this has now been returned and added to the site. The dial on this watch has been damaged by excess oil, at some stage in its life, and in the future I may sent it for a dial refinish but, at the present moment I am going to leave it as original as possible.
Having, quite accidently, started collecting Le Cheminant watches about 5 years ago, with the purchase of a simple silver dialled mechanical watch, my collection has now risen to 100 watches. Once I had found out what, little, there was to know about the company, I was hooked and decided, these were the watches I wanted to collect. Le Cheminant watches are all Swiss Made by leading Swiss watch manufactures and then imported by the Le Cheminant Ltd, a small jewellers in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. You may find watches by leading manufacturers that look the same or, are the same, an example of this is the famous Camy 77 jewelled watch. I wish all my watches in the, Le Cheminant collection, were in mint condition but alas they are not and as with any collection each one is important, even if of less value. My first aim is to expand the collection of Le Cheminant watches and this was one of the aims of this website, to inform the public that there is someone who collects these watches and possibly to get leads to further watches to add to my collection.
This Le Cheminant 1822, 25 jewelled automatic with skeleton back is one such purchase that came about because of the website. My thanks to Mr Terry Compton who, after seeing the site, allowed me to purchase this watch, after his uncle, a collector, had passed away.
Another fellow collector, Duncan (sundial) from the TZ-UK watch forum allowed me to purchase another two Le Cheminant watches, which are shown below. The first is a gold plated Le Cheminant watch, 25 jewelled, self winding watch fitted with an ETA movement calibre 2873 with quickset date. The second of the two is a stainless steel quartz, Le Cheminant watch, dress style, fitted with a stainless steel bracelet, purchesed originally when a jewellers in Duncans local town closed down.
About the Le Cheminant collection
I purchase as many Le Cheminant watches as possible, averaging one purchase per month and the site is updated at regular intervals, so a return visit is well worth while. Eventually I would like all the watches to be working, keeping good time and in good cosmetic condition, but I already have watches that may not be economical to repair. If you are interested in anything you have seen on the site and you would like to know more about Le Cheminant watches in general or a specific watch you have seen on the site, please do not hesitate to Email me at the address below with any questions you may have. I am not an expert on Le Cheminant watches, only those that are in my collection, and will not try to put a value on a Le Cheminant watch that is in your possession, the value of any watch is only the amount a buyer is willing to purchase it for, so please do not ask for a valuation.
(SORRY, none of the Le Cheminant watches are for sale)
Recently I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase two modern Le Cheminant watches. The first was a 200m Automatic Professional Divers watch and the second a Quartz watch with a 24 hour GMT dial and unusual hour pointer.
