Very briefly...

In 1982 Fairport Convention did not exist as a group, and with the exception of a few reports of Dave Pegg's work with Jethro Tull, there was virtually no way of finding out what the various former members of the group were doing, though all were busy recording and touring. Martyn Kenney started a newsletter following the response to an advert he placed in Record Collector magazine. This grew into a magazine before he passed the reigns to me five years later.

Since then Friends Of Fairport has grown into a worldwide organisation, with independent organisations and magazines in Australia, America, Germany, Austria and Holland. During this time we have aided television, radio and the press regarding articles and items about Fairport as a group and members as individuals. We have also assisted with both new and archive releases of video, DVD and CD material.

In recent years emails and web sites have replaced magazines as the medium to pass on news quickly, and the overseas magazines have now all ceased. In 2006 the difficult decision was made to finish publishing The Ledge as a printed  magazine. Having started first it  outlasted all the others, though Fiddlestix took the lead in using email and website as it’s medium. This new format for The Ledge has been tried and tested by them, an e mail newsletter to provide reviews, and news with this website to back up those items with additional photographs, web links and whatever is needed to keep promoting Fairport, their fiends and related bands. Hopefully quicker and more efficiently than the last 25 years.

Articles and reviews are always most welcome, for use on the site or in newsletters, as Friends Of Fairport was and always will be friends, with a common love and aim.
