Season Gripes
- It was brought up that
people did not like the new World rules especially the deliberate foul
rule
- The new World rules
are here to stay and people will just have to get used to them. The Majority
of leagues around the country are now playing the new rules and it now
means we can take part in outer-district competitions. Our League players
can now take part in Cambridgeshire County league trials to compete to
become a County player if they wish to do so. Trial dates will be made
available as soon as I know.
- Result cards not being
filled in properly or not receiving them that week. I would like player’s
names to be filled in with First Name (or Initial) followed by Surname.
This enables me to keep track of how many Win’s a player has had. If not
filled in properly then I have to guess who actually won the game so leads
to inaccurate results for some players. Most problems occur when there are
two players in the team with same name.
- It
was agreed that cards would be filled in properly.
- Hartford S & SC complained that it was unfair to be deducted a
point for not ringing in a Team K/O Match result.
- I
explained that after a Monday night Pool match you need to ring the
result in. Failure to do so will incurs a 1-point fine as on the fixture
list. This was brought in at a past AGM Meeting due to similar problem.
It was decided that in future if the Winning team does not inform me of
the Team K/O Match result on the Monday Night then they will forfeit the
match.
- It is unfair that a team can end up playing the Team K/O as their
home Venue.
- It
was acknowledged that it is a problem but there is not much you can do
when you have only one week to arrange due to a very tight pool season.
The main problem is because at present there are only 3 Venue’s willing
and able to hold the presentation (Hartford , Montagu , Lord Protector).
It has been a problem in the past and teams have complained but most
teams have accepted playing the team at their home venue on Presentation
night. Hopefully we can try and add two new Venue’s to the list (Three
Horseshoes & Dragoon) for future seasons which I believe have enough
room to hold a presentation night. This coming W/L 2001-2002 season
however I hope to have it down the Lord Protector as we obviously need
two tables for the singles and doubles knockout.

New Proposals / Issues
for forthcoming Season
We
have now affiliated to Cambridgeshire Pool Association (C.P.A). The C.P.A are
affiliated to the English Pool Association (E.P.A). This means we are obliged
to play the New World rules as the standard. However it is accepted that we do
not have to play the time /time-out rule which in no way affects the game. The
affiliation to the C.P.A / EPA now means we have the opportunity to enter the
Inter-league (Super League), Champion of Champions and take part in County
trials to play for the county
Super-league
(Inter-league) is played once a month on a Monday and requires at least seven
good players. The organisers are going out their way to try and arrange some
games on other nights for us so as not to affect our league but some match’s
will need to be played on a Monday night. Anyone interested please let me know.
If there is a good response then we will have a 1 frame round robin to
determine who performs the best to make the team. The team will be determined
by the knockout result with sub’s
- If a referee calls the
wrong ruling then he should be challenged and corrected where necessary
(e.g. calling foul snooker instead of total snooker and vice versa or
calling two visits instead of 1
- It
was agreed that a referee could be challenged if he makes an obvious
wrong decision. However the referee cannot be challenged for difficult
non-obvious decisions. Any non reconcilable decision can be resolved by
re-rack if both players agree or else call me on my mobile.
- This season I want to
change the format from 5 singles , 2 doubles to 9 singles. You still need
5 players (a player may play no more then two games in a night). The first
five games must be different players but after that you can play the same
player again if you wish until he has played 2 games.
- Some
teams were concerned they would not have enough players to accommodate
this change as some of their players only wanted to play doubles. It was
therefore decided to abandon this change for this forthcoming season and
hopefully try and bring it in Summer 2002 season.
- Singles and Doubles
will be played over two Venues again due to the Montagu club now having
two tables.
- Lord
Protector & Montagu club will therefore be the Venue’s for the first
sessions of the Singles and Doubles. No team will be allowed to play at
their home venue for the first round. The second session for singles will
be the Lord Protector and Montagu Club for the Doubles.
- This Season there will
only be two divisions unless we get a vast increase of teams. People were
complaining that the leagues were two short. Alternatively we could have
two divisions but one fixture list where everyone plays everyone
- The
Idea to have one fixture list covering both divisions was rejected, as
teams do not want to play teams that are not in their division.
- This season I would
like players to be picked who they play by drawing the names. This will
make the games more interesting as players will not know whom they have to
play. In previous seasons it could get very boring as a player would more
or less know who he was going to play and would sometimes get the same
player every season.
- It
was agreed that players would be drawn so as to make the games
interesting. Therefore the Home team advantage as now gone.
- This season I was
thinking of changing the point system to either one of the following:-
- You get 1-Point for
each frame won. No points for winning the match. Therefore the team who
wins the most legs wins the league
2.
You get 2-Points for each match won. Therefore the team who
wins the most games wins the league
- Handicap System. Match
stops when you reach 4 games. If you win 4-0 (3 Points) , 4-1 (2 Points) ,
4-2 (1 Point) , 4-3 (0 Points). The Team with most points wins the league.
- Keep the Current System
- It
was agreed to keep the Current Score System.

Way Forward
·
It
would be good if I could Fax /email everyone the new Fixture lists and results
rather then Posting or Travelling. Does everyone have a Fax / Email Number I
could have for this purpose. Please let me know by emailing me on tuveyclan@ntlworld.com or text me
on 0794 6204541

A
Web page has been set-up by me for the Stanjay Sports League. The URL is http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tuveyclan/sshpool.htm
I update the Division tables on it every Monday Night / Tuesday Morning for
teams to see where they stand. Any Idea’s on what you want on it then let me
Know.
