William Pegg is listed in the 19th century trade directories as a hairdresser, of 119 Friar Gate (or Friargate), Derby.

I'd traced the family line back to him but was looking for further confirmation of my findings. I found this on the birth certificate of my great-great grandfather William Higinbotham, which shows that he was born at 119 Friargate, his great-grandfather's home. William's parents Andrew and Elizabeth were, the certificate suggests, living there at the time. They obviously named their son after his great-grandfather.

William Pegg states on the census returns that he was born at Littleover, Derby, and the IGI has the relevant record of his baptism, on 24 Apr 1789, at Littleover. He married Elizabeth Coats on 17 Jul 1815 at St Werburgh, Derby.

William Pegg is listed as a hairdresser, on Friargate, in the 1829 directory (Glover), and in later directories published in 1852 (Freebody) and 1857 (Whites). He is listed with this occupation also on the census returns, until 1861, when he was aged 70.

William Pegg died in the June quarter of 1868, in Derby.
