Day
1: Leave Oban, up the Sound of Mull to Tobormoray, then on round
Ardnamurchan Point to Mallaig.
Day 2: Sound of Sleat, through Lochalsh, Under the Skye Bridge,
round Scalpey and then inside Raasay for pit stop in Portree.
Then round Rubha Na H-Aiseigon and Across the Little Minch to
Stornaway. Isle of Lewis.
Day 3: Out across the North Minch to Stoer Head before heading
North round Cape Wrath and across the top on to Thurso (long
day, may have to break journey depending on weather)
Day 4: Explore the Orkney Islands. Head out across the Phenomenally
swift Pentland Firth and into the North Scapa flow to Stromness.
Then cut under St Marys via the Bridge, Round the Point of Ayer
and Chip of the Mull to Kirkwall before reversing the route
and heading south to Wick.
Day 5: Continue South to Inverness via the Moray Firth. This
is Prime dolphin area so really hope to see some.
Day 6: Into the Caladonian Canal. Through Loch ness and overnight
at the beautiful Fort Augustus.
Day 7: Continue on through the Canal to Corpach before exiting
into Loch Linnhe and Back to Oban.
Estimated Distance 600 Nautical miles.
If we get a genuine weather window, we may forsake the Canal
for the long passage from Orkney Via Fair Isle up to Lerwick
on the Shetland Islands. This will add another 200 odd offshore
miles. Having nearly killed ourselves last year though, I am
not doing it in anything less than a perfect "High"!
