Railways, large and small
I’m a railway buff and for those of you not yet enlightened, no
that doesn’t mean an anorak and bobble hat clad nerdy trainspotter at the end
of a deserted platform obsessed with numbers, as stereotypically portrayed by
the media!
Railways are a mode of transport with a unique atmosphere and to me, the steam era railway embodied many elements that made the world a better place and there are a multitude of fascinating aspects to Railways, such as their history, the engineering, signalling operation and much more.
Our local preserved railway-The East Lancashire Railway is one
of the country’s premier preserved lines. Find out more about them here: ELR
I’m also a supporter of Peak
Rail, based on the ex-Midland Railway main line through the peak
district
Of course, one specialised aspect of this interest is
model-making – with lots of different scales and prototypes. I’ve chosen 2mm
finescale-more details from here: The 2mm Scale Association
