| 5 October | Rosemary Hunt Playford with music from Steve Hunt. Rosemary has called our workshops before and has been invited back because we enjoyed her calling. Steve (along with daughter Genni) is Orion's Ring |
| 1 November | Evening dance at Bedhampton Social Hall with a mixture of styles, from Playford to New England Contras, called by our very own John Turner (recent feedback from a dance was "Thank you for a dynamic & so enjoyable evening. We loved the dances you chose...")
We will be at the Bedhampton Social Hall instead of Soberton. The Bedhampton Hall is modern with automatic doors and a beech dance floor in the main hall. The hall is five minutes or less by road from the last exit of the A3(M) and shortly before Bedhampton level crossing on the right past the Volvo garage. You can see a map on the web at www.bedhampton-social.hampshire.org.uk In effect it is just off the junction of the M27/A27 and the A3(M). We hope that having such an easy venue to find will encourage as many of you as possible to attend. |
| 16 November | Colin Hume will be calling American Squares and Contras. Lots of movement and essential to listen to the caller in this one, especially as he advises on ways to improve. Gareth Kiddier and Linda Game (The English Contra Dance Band) will be the musicians |
| 11 January | Ellis Rogers Regency and Victorian. We suggested to Ellis that he moves on to later periods, so that we have to worry less about the fancy stepping, but no doubt he'll cover this too. He will be calling using CD's |
| 8 February | Wendy Mumford who teaches Scottish Country Dancing in Winchester will be leading the event. It is some years since we did some Scottish dancing, please bring your own swords (to help eat lunch if you bring a sword, I'll bring a fork!). David Roberts will be providing his usual excellent music. |
| 22 February | West Gallery Song Workshop with Mike Bailey and The Madding Crowd. We are delighted to have Mike come back to lead us in some wonderful singing, because lots of people asked us to arrange a second session after the success a couple of years back. West Gallery is the music and singing of the church bands and choirs in Georgian times, beginning after the Restoration, reaching its peak in the reign of George III, and being displaced during Victorian times. Singers: In this workshop, Mike will teach you to sing Psalms and anthems as you would have heard them in any country church, rich 4-part harmonies and lively tunes. Vocal parts can be taught by ear to those who don’t read music. Instrumentalists: The singing is accompanied and supported by string and wind instruments. Woodwind, strings and brass are the best. We don’t need a huge band, and it will be helpful if players are also willing to sing sometimes. |
| 8 March | Carol Hewson, a popular caller from Croydon, will present modern dances in the Playford style with Pete and Sue Hall providing the music. Carol's calling of these more recently written dances usually feel like they could have be published by Playford in 1684 or whenever. |
| 29 March | Barrie Bullimore New England Contras. This time Pete and Sue Hall will pick up the tempo to help the American style. Barrie has a nice approach that can help with innovative contra dances. |
All workshops are on Sundays at Soberton Village Hall, from 10.30am to 3.30pm, FASH members £5.00, non-members £7.00. Tea and coffee available. NOTE THE DANCE IS AT BEDHAMPTON
