2 Informal Gatherings in South Hampshire and area
As well as the many groups that are regularly covered in Solent Waves, there are many informal gatherings going on, in and around our area. We hear about some of these and there is a network of movers and shakers who seek to avoid clashes and thus lose someone half an audience. With the help of the Editor, we'd like to tell people about these events from time to time and this addition to the music web page contains the list with more detail than the printed mag where available. These gatherings are usually free and of an informal 'anything goes' nature with songs, instruments and poetry welcome. Please let us know about omissions or mistakes and note that many of the Clubs above also have informal nights.
In addition. note the Sussex Informal Sessions web page at http://www.lewesarmsfolkclub.org/LAFC/Sessions.php.

- The 'other' session which used to be at the Queen Mary in Poole can now be found at Albion, Ringwood Road, Newtown, Poole. Second Monday [NOT Tues as erroneously given before] of the month. Martin and Vera [Jardine] write... The room is fantastic, the right size and shape with great acoustics. The car park is massive, room for twenty coaches plus cars. Best of all the landlord and the locals like what we do. As you know from previous missives thereare no restrictions on content, only on quality and variety. And yes people can sing; they will get a full folk orchestral accompaniment but a quality one.

THURSDAYS
- Acoustic Music Sessions at the Bun Penny, Lee on Solent
First Thursday of the month from 8:00 pm
If you sing or play an instrument (or even both at the same time!), come along and join in this informal mix of tunes and songs.
Contact Phil on 02392 550921 (day) 02392 423161 (evening), e-mail philipg147[at]aol.com or Tony on 02392 553048
** Starts Thursday the 4th of September **
The Bun Penny is the new home for the acoustic evenings that used to take place at the Kings Head in Gosport. Please note the new day - Thursday - and frequency - once a month (to begin with, anyway). The pub (postcode PO13 9JH) is in Manor Way, which is part of the B3385 from Fareham to Lee on Solent: if you reach the sea you've gone a few hundred yards too far! It's a comfortable venue with plenty of room in the bars, ample parking, is pool- and darts-free and serves decent beer. We'd like to try to encourage a little more session style joining-in as well as the solo spots so, perhaps, singaround one half and session the other but we'll see how it goes.
- Every 3rd Thursday in the month at The Black Swan, 159 High Street, Swanage BH19 2NE. 8pm onwards - open folk session run by landlady Alyson. All welcome.
- The Wimborne Thursday Folk Session has moved again to The British Legion. Still the same format still fun !! 8.30pm informal singarounds new singers and audience always warmly welcome - Geoff Payne geoffpayne62a@yahoo.com. The Legion premises are just off the
Wimborne Square, in Westboro and though there is limited parking, the large car park at the rear in Westfield Road is free in the evenings.
- The Cove House Inn Sessions (every Thursday) 8pm at Chiswell, Portland (Near Weymouth) - Roger Gall 01305 821407 or Roger.Gall@btinternet.com.
- Music Evenings (last Thursdays) at Lee on The Solent Sailing Club, Marine Parade East. Mix of songs and tunes. 9pm. Non-members need signing-in - Bob Squirrell 08454563201 Bob.Squirrell@kognosys.co.uk. Check the website at www.lossc.co.uk for up-to-date information.
