FOLKLIGHTS EXTRAS We’re delighted to let you know that Folklights returned to Romsey in 2010.

We’re also delighted to announce that our home for this new series of evenings will be the Lantern Theatre at Mountbatten School, Whitenap Lane, Romsey, Hants SO51 5SY where there will be more space for cabaret-style seating, proper lighting and sound systems, good acoustics and free on-site parking!

As before, Folklights will bring you a different blend of specially-selected performers for each evening. They’ll be drawn mainly from the southern folk scene but, as before, we’ll add high quality acts from other genres too.

As usual the concert takes place in the Lantern Theatre at The Mountbatten School, Romsey. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

We need to let you know that the ticket price will now be £6, helping us to cover rising costs whilst raising money for Romsey Opportunity Group, but hope you’ll agree that it’s still great value.

Next Folklights on Thursday the 2nd of Feb.
First on stage will be Romsey’s own singer-songwriter, Syd Meats. If you’ve seen Syd before you’ll know what to expect: individual, idiosyncratic, humorous songs that will have you chuckling in recognition, nodding in sympathy, singing along, and possibly imitating the fighting stance of a prawn!

Syd will be followed by Portsmouth-based duo Wholehearted. Pete Luscombe and John Bartlett were both members of fabulous harmony group Ramskyte and decided to carry on in their own right when the group reached its end. They have gone from strength to strength and are in great demand on the folk circuit. Both write very strong songs and are equally strong singers too.

After the interval our final act of the evening will be Tudor Lodge, and we couldn’t be more delighted. We first saw them performing at Winchester Folk Festival and we have seen them since in the excellent Windmill folk and music club in Ewshot, near Farnham. We have loved them every time we have seen them, and were bowled over when they agreed to perform for us at Folklights.

John and Lynne perform a mixture of new and older material – some original, some collected from other artists – with great finesse. Expect consummate musicianship, fine harmony singing, and more than a dash of humour.
