RETURN TO HOMEPAGE COMPLETE SITE INDEX Charlie's Charity Challenge
The purpose of all this was to get the people of Surrey, Sussex and North-East Hampshire out of their houses and participate in a little fun - all in aid of charity. If a simple task was completed or item brought to the radio car, a sponsor would donate £100 to a local charity (or local branch of a national charity). Originally, I had planned to list every Saturday's Challenge on this page - detailing where Charlie & Steve were, what they wanted listeners to bring to them, who the charity was and the donating company. Sadly, this proved an impossible task for various reasons. Below, you will find details of the Challenges I had managed to collect.
Saturday 1st May Steve Cranford and Jenny Gerrard were outside Budgens in Hassocks collecting anything to do with dogs. The challenge was a success today. The donating charity is Soroptimist which is to do with women in management. They donated £100 to "The Children's Country Holidays Fund (& Stafford House) and you can find their website here. For further information, telephone the station's helpline on 0800 88 88 06. Saturday 24th April Charlie and Steve were in Caterham today. They only needed someone to say they listen to the radio station as they had never visited the town before. The challenge was a success. The donating organisation was Proctor and Gamble and Brian Perry from the company came to talk on air. The charity receiving the money was Spellthorne Civic Pride which is an environmental group and mainly funded by Spellthorne Borough Council). For further information, telephone the station's helpline on 0800 88 88 06. Saturday 17th April Today's challenge had to be cancelled due to technical difficulties. The company and charity booked for today will be up for the challenge next week instead. Saturday 10th April Steve Cranford and Lanie Whiting were in Burgess Hill today collecting sick bags for the challenge! - Lovely!! The challenge was a success today and £100 was donated by American Express to Leo House Hospice in Sussex. For more information about the hospice - telephone Janine Potts on (01323) 520571 or e-mail Beth - leo@brighton-lions.org. This was a successful challenge today and the successful charity getting the £100 was North Farm Park Activity Toys who are based in in Albourne. I was unable to hear today's programme myself and am currently awaiting details of Jenny & Steve's location and the donating company. For further information, telephone the station's helpline on 0800 88 88 06. Saturday 27th March Charlie and Steve were outside a pet shop in Farnham. The challenge today was to bring a clock which was successful. Today's organisation was Proctor & Gamble who donated £100 to 1st Virginia Water Scouts. Click here for the 1st VWS website. Unfortunately, for some strange reason, I cannot find a website for Proctor & Gamble. In this day and age, I don't believe they have no website! If you wish to find out more about this company, I suggest you try doing an "engine search" on the internet and see if you have any more luck than I did!! For further information on either organisation, telephone the station's helpline on 0800 88 88 06. Saturday 20th March Charlie and Steve were at Carfax in Horsham today and listeners were asked to bring along stilettos shoes! Today was a complete success, not only because several pairs of stilettos turned up, but also Charlie and Steve were brought teas, coffees and doughnuts to keep them happy (very happy!!!). Thank you to everyone who made today's show (and challenge) a success. The donating company was Mortgage Solutions in Horsham (13 West Street, Horsham, West Sussex RH12 1PB) and the charity receiving the £100 was the well known Make A Wish Foundation®. This charity is described as follows (from their website) - "Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish granting work. Steve was very generous and bought Charlie a Danish pastry after the challenge was completed!
