COMPLETE SITE INDEXGUILDFORD ANTI-INCINERATOR NETWORK (GAIN)
The Guildford Anti-Incinerator Network (GAIN) was formed in September 2000 after two public meetings at Bishop Reindorp School at which representatives from Surrey County Council and Thames Waste Management put forward proposals to build an incinerator in the Slyfield area of Guildford. These meetings were very well attended with the hall full, many people having to stand. SCC and TWM were put through the toughest public meetings they had experienced for years and although this initial incinerator application was finally rejected in December 2001, the fight goes on to keep Surrey incinerator free.
Keep up to date with the latest GAIN news at www.no-incinerator.org.uk.
GAIN are not in the slightest a "NIMBY" organisation, campaigning strongly against incineration as a way of dealing with waste in Surrey and across the country. Members of GAIN include solicitors, environmental and technical experts and people who have worked for councils and the waste industry. Therefore, all GAIN's responses to documents released by SCC and other authorities are well prepared at the highest level technically.
GAIN's work is ongoing, with many aspects to the campaign. Other than appealing against incinerator applications, areas covered are waste management, recycling facilities, recycling doorstep collections, commercial waste issues, tackling over-packaging at the pre-selling stage and more. GAIN endeavours to maintain communications and a good working relations with Guildford Borough Council, Surrey County Council and waste management companies. We cannot get results which benefit everybody without working together.
