Guild of Beadworkers
Rules of Advancement
Member
To become a member you must express an interest in the Guild and inform
the Guildmistress, preferably in writing, of your wish to join the Guild.
Apprentice
An Apprentice in the Guild must:
either
produce two identical pieces of beadwork (this can be discussed with
the Guildmistress as to the scope for variation);
or
complete the Guilds Apprentice/Journeyman Beadcourse.
Journeyman
A Journeyman must:
either
produce at least two items of beadwork showing two different threading
techniques;
or
complete the Guilds Apprentice/Journeyman Beadcourse;
or
complete the Guilds Journeyman/Master Beadcourse.
plus
Write a 500 word essay on some aspect of beadwork and describe in writing
how to do a piece of beadwork.
Master
A Master in the Guild must:
produce a piece of work acceptable to the Guildmistress as a Masterpiece.
plus
produce a piece of work using unusual beads or produce an unusual piece
of beadwork.
plus
Give three talks on beadwork.
NB: The Guilds Journeyman/Master Beadcourse will contribute to Master
status.
Junior Beadworkers
The Guild also has a ranking system for the junior members of the Society
(i.e. those of about 14 or under) who have an interest in beadwork.
These ranks may be earned in the following way:
Apprentice
Must show an ability to thread beads.
Journeyman
1) Know the names of three types of beads and identity them.
2) Know the names of three types of clasps and identify them.
3) Know the names of three types of knots and identify them.
Master
Produce two copies of a piece of work.
